The Bhutan Sightseeing Tour is a five day journey through some of the country’s important cultural and natural attractions. The trip starts in Paro where you will be picked up at Paro International Airport to drive to the capital city Thimphu. The trail then continues to Punakha and finally returns to Paro.
You’ll get an introduction to Bhutanese life in Thimphu, where you’ll be able to visit Tashichho Dzong, the Traditional School of Arts and Crafts and Buddha Point. The road from Thimphu heads up to Dochu La Pass (approx. 3,100 m / 10,171 ft), then down to the warmer Punakha Valley.

Bhutan Sightseeing Tour Itinerary
Dag 01: Arrive in Paro (2,235 m / 7,333 ft) and drive to Thimphu (2,334 m / 7,657 ft)
You will go through immigration and customs formalities at the Paro International Airport (2,235 m / 7,333 ft). Be sure to have a visa clearance letter on hand for inspection. After leaving the terminal, the guide/ driver will welcome you and help you transfer to the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu.
The journey from Paro to Thimphu takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the traffic and road conditions and will stop at certain spots along the way. The path snakes through the mountains, valleys, forests and traditional villages and through agricultural fields. This walk will introduce you to the Bhutan landscape and countryside.
Once in Thimphu, we will drop you off at our hotel. Visit Buddha Point at Kuensel Phodrang or, if time allows, stroll around the city centre. Another place in Thimphu worth visiting is the very prominent religious monument Memorial Chorten. After your overnight stay, dinner will be served at the Hotel.

The morning will be spent exploring some of the important cultural sites in Thimphu after breakfast. The Traditional School of Arts and Crafts may be part of the visit, where traditional Bhutanese skills are taught and then the visit to a Traditional Government and Religious Complex, Tashichho Dzong. To learn about Bhutan’s national animal, one can also visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, also known as the city’s mini zoo.
Later, we will depart from Thimphu, heading towards Punakha. The ride crosses through the woodland of the mountains to Dochu La Pass (3,100 m / 10,171 ft). The pass is known for its 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and the magnificent views of the Himalayan ranges, when clear.
The trail from Dochu La travels down through differing vegetation towards the warmer Punakha Valley. We will reach Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong, which is at the confluence of Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu. If time permits, we will also visit Chimi Lhakhang, the traditional association of Drukpa Kunley. After that, we will arrive at our hotel for the night.

Dag 03: Trek from Punakha (1,300 m / 4,265 ft) to Wangdue and Drive to Paro (2,235 m / 7,333 ft)
Following breakfast, we will proceed to the Punakha Valley and then head towards Paro. If Chimi Lhakhang is not visited on the previous day, then it can be added to the morning. Access to the temple is through a short stroll through the local farm and villages where you can get a glimpse of the valley’s rural life.
We’ll then head on to Wangdue Phodrang. If the existing sightseeing programme permits, we can put in a stop at the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong for some scenic views of the valley. The trail then heads towards the city of Thimphu, from where it heads onto the road to Paro. It goes through hills with forests, river valleys, villages and mountain roads.
The distance from Punakha to Paro is around 125 km and the road trip will take about 4-5 hrs on average, depending on the road conditions and sightseeing stops. Arrived at Paro, we will then check in to the hotel. If time allows, enjoy a walk around the town or enjoy a relaxing time in the hotel. Overnight stay and dinner will be at Paro.

Dag 04: Trek from Paro (2,235 m / 7,333 ft) to Tiger's Nest Monastery (3,120 m / 10,236 ft)
We have breakfast, after which we drive to the trailhead for the trek to Paro Taktsang, also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The trail ascends through the blue pine forest and leads on steadily through the uphill slopes to the monastery. This hike is not easy in parts and we will go at a comfortable pace with breaks as necessary.
Tiger’s Nest is located at 3120m (10236ft) on a cliff above the Paro Valley. It’s a hike of about 5-6 km round trip and will take about 4 to 6 hours, during which you can explore the monastery. The trail has forested areas, stone steps, viewpoints and even descends into the gorge before climbing back up to the monastery.
From the monastery, we will then walk back to the trailhead and head back to Paro. The afternoon can be spent at Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s old temples, or at the National Museum at Ta Dzong, depending on available time and energy. We will then head back to the hotel for dinner and our last night in Bhutan.

Dag 05: Paro Afgang
Breakfast will be served, after which we will proceed to check out of the hotel and get ready for departure from Bhutan. We will transfer you to Paro International Airport as per your flight schedule with our guide and driver. The airport is close to the town of Paro and the usual journey to the town by car is about 15-20 minutes, depending on the location of your hotel and the condition of the road.
If your flight is later in the day, you may have some free time before you depart to the airport. If time permits, you can take a short walk around the town of Paro, or make a final tour to the nearby sights. Other sightseeing will depend upon the time of departure and the airport’s check-in procedure.
We will help you with all the procedures at the airport before you take off for your flight to Kathmandu or onward travel. This is the end of your tour in Bhutan and the services you will receive on this tour.
