Reiseübersicht
The Bhutan Sightseeing Tour is a five-day journey through some of the country’s important cultural and natural attractions. The trip starts in Paro, where you will be picked up at Paro International Airport and driven to the capital city, Thimphu. The trail then continues to Punakha and finally returns to Paro.
You’ll get an introduction to Bhutanese life in Thimphu, where you can visit Tashichho Dzong, the Traditional School of Arts and Crafts, and Buddha Point. The road from Thimphu heads up to Dochu La Pass (approx. 3,100 m / 10,171 ft), then down to the warmer Punakha Valley.
Punakha is famous for its historic dzong, which is situated where the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers converge. The route also passes through traditional villages, cultivated fields, forests, and mountain landscapes, on paths that link the valleys.
The trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (also known as Paro Taktsang) is a highlight of the Bhutan Sightseeing Tour. The monastery is located at an elevation of around 3,120 m / 10,236 ft above the Paro Valley. The walk is several hours long and uphill, mostly through forest, with many stone steps. You will clear immigration and customs formalities at Paro International Airport (2,235 m / 7,333 ft). Be sure to have a visa clearance letter on hand for inspection. After leaving the terminal, your guide/driver will welcome you and help you transfer to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu.
The journey from Paro to Thimphu takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions, and includes stops at certain spots along the way. The path snakes through mountains, valleys, forests, traditional villages, and agricultural fields. This walk will introduce you to the Bhutan landscape and countryside.
Once in Thimphu, we will drop you off at our hotel. Visit Buddha Point at Kuensel Phodrang or, if time allows, stroll around the city center. Another place in Thimphu worth visiting is the very prominent religious monument, Memorial Chorten. After your overnight stay, dinner will be served at the Hotel.

After breakfast, you’ll spend the morning exploring some of Thimphu’s important cultural sites. The Traditional School of Arts and Crafts may be part of the visit, where traditional Bhutanese skills are taught, followed by a visit to the Traditional Government and Religious Complex, Tashichho Dzong. To learn about Bhutan’s national animal, one can also visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, also known as the city’s mini zoo.
Later, we will depart Thimphu and head to Punakha. The ride crosses through the mountain woodlands to Dochu La Pass (3,100 m / 10,171 ft). The pass is known for its 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and, when clear, magnificent views of the Himalayan ranges.
The trail from Dochu La descends through changing vegetation toward the warmer Punakha Valley. We will reach Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong, which is at the confluence of Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu. If time permits, we will also visit Chimi Lhakhang, the traditional association of Drukpa Kunley. After that, we will arrive at our hotel for the night.

Tag 03: Wanderung von Punakha (1,300 m) nach Wangdue und Fahrt nach Paro (2,235 m)
Following breakfast, we will proceed to the Punakha Valley and then head towards Paro. If you didn’t visit Chimi Lhakhang the previous day, you can add it to the morning. Access to the temple is via a short stroll through local farms and villages, where you can glimpse the valley’s rural life.
We’ll then head on to Wangdue Phodrang. If the existing sightseeing program permits, we can stop at Wangdue Phodrang Dzong for scenic views of the valley. The trail then heads towards the city of Thimphu, from where it heads onto the road to Paro. It passes through forested hills, river valleys, villages, and mountain roads.
The distance from Punakha to Paro is around 125 km, and the road trip takes about 4-5 hrs on average, depending on road conditions and sightseeing stops. Upon arrival in Paro, we will check in to the hotel. If time allows, enjoy a walk around town or relax at the hotel. Overnight stay, and dinner will be in Paro.

Tag 04: Wanderung von Paro (2,235 m / 7,333 ft) zum Tiger's Nest Kloster (3,120 m / 10,236 ft)
We have breakfast, then drive to the trailhead for the trek to Paro Taktsang, also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The trail ascends through the blue pine forest and steadily climbs to the monastery. This hike is challenging in parts, and we will go at a comfortable pace with breaks as needed.
Tiger’s Nest is located at 3120m (10236ft) on a cliff above the Paro Valley. It’s a hike of about 5-6 km round trip and will take about 4 to 6 hours, during which you can explore the monastery. The trail has forested areas, stone steps, viewpoints, and even descends into the gorge before climbing back up to the monastery.
From the monastery, we will then walk back to the trailhead and head back to Paro. Depending on time and energy, we can spend the afternoon at Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, or at the National Museum at Ta Dzong. Then we’ll head back to the hotel for dinner and our last night in Bhutan.

Tag 05: Abflug von Paro
Breakfast will be served, after which we will check out of the hotel and prepare for departure from Bhutan. We will transfer you to Paro International Airport as per your flight schedule with our guide and driver. The airport is close to Paro town, and the usual drive is about 15-20 minutes, depending on your hotel’s location and road conditions.
If your flight is later in the day, you may have some free time before you depart to the airport. If time permits, you can take a short walk around the town of Paro, or make a final tour of the nearby sights. Other sightseeing will depend upon the time of departure and the airport’s check-in procedure.
