Journey to Mardi Himal  

The journey of the Mardi Himal Trek begins in the lively city of Pokhara. At around 800 meters altitude, Pokhara is a city known as a tourist hub. The trek stretches from here to a maximum height of 4,200 meters from the Viewpoint of the Mardi Himal High Camp. The major highlights of the Mardi Himal Trek include lush green forests, colourful valleys, cultural exposition, and glacial rivers flowing right from the mountains with views of marvellous snowcapped Himalayan peaks such as Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, etc.

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)
  • Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (820M) and explore the lakeside in the evening (7-hour drive) O/N at 3 Star Hotel (A.B)

Detailed Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary 

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 

  • Altitude: 1,300m/4,264ft
  • Highlights: Explore the vibrant city of Kathmandu
  • Accommodation: Kathmandu 3-Star Hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Kathmandu city welcomes you with a gush of rich culture. Kathmandu has vibrant markets, bustling, busy streets, and a bundle of colourful temples and grand pagodas. Representatives from My Everest Trip will receive you from the airport and transfer you to your hotel. You will be briefed about the trek during the afternoon. You may also go shopping for necessary trekking gear.

 Day 02: Drive to Fly to Pokhara 

  • Altitude: 820m/2,690ft
  • Highlights: Breathtaking scenery of diverse landscapes both on flight and drive. Winding highway hills and lush green hills close up views on the drive. Tranquil lake of Phewa and views of mountains afar at Pokhara.
  • Accommodation: Pokhara Hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today, you will be heading for Pokhara. Pokhara may be the gateway to most treks in the Annapurna region. You have two options to reach Pokhara: by flight or by drive. The drive is approximately 7 hours, whereas the flight is about 30 mins. Nevertheless, both methods will give you fantastic scenery of dramatic landscapes. As you reach Pokhara, the busy streets and the warm lights provide a wonderful atmosphere. You may explore the city or relax beside the tranquil Phewa Lake, enjoying the cool breeze.

 Day 03: Drive to Kande, trek to Forest Camp

  • Altitude: 2,540m/8,333ft
  • Highlights: Transition from a bustling city to a beautiful serene natural environment. Lush, dense forests of oak, maple, and rhododendrons.
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today you will be driving to Kande, leaving the bustling environment of the city. Upon reaching Kande, you will begin trekking toward the forest camp. Forest camp is about 6 to 7 hours away from Kande. The quiet trails follow through dense oak, maple, and rhododendrons forests. You will stay overnight at a tea house at the forest camp, where you will be served lunch, dinner, and breakfast.

Day 04: Trek to Low Camp 

  • Altitude: 3,305m/10,843ft
  • Highlights: Diverse vegetation of groves and ferns. Mountain views of Machhapuchhre and neighbouring peaks
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

From Forest Camp, the trail continues to ascend towards Low Camp. Low Camp is situated approximately 4 hours away from the forest camp. Following paths filled and decorated with forests, you find lush vegetation of rhododendrons covered with moss groves and twisted ferns. Mount Machhapuchhre and several other snow-clad peaks are visible from the low Camp.

Day 05: Trek to High Camp 

  • Altitude: 3,590m/11,778ft
  • Highlights: Views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli Himal, Machhapuchhre, and many more peaks. It is occasionally sighting of the Himalayan Monal.
  • Accommodation: Tea house
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today you make your way to High Camp. After an hour of trekking, the trail breaks above the tree line. From this altitude, you get good views of the snow-clad peaks from afar. As the trail continues along the Mardi Himal ridge, watch for the colourful Himalayan Monal. Upon reaching High Camp, you get marvellous views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli Himal, Machhapuchhre, and many more peaks. You stay overnight at a tea house here and prepare for your hike to Viewpoint tomorrow.

Day 06: Hike to Upper View Point and back to High Camp 

  • Altitude: 4,200m/13,779ft
  • Highlights: Sunrise view over the mountains, sighting Himalayan Monal. Panoramic views of mountains such as Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, etc.
  • Accommodation: Tea House
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

The day starts with an early sunrise viewing over the mountains. Soon after breakfast, you create your hike up the Mardi Himal. The well-established trail is not too challenging and contains occasional steep sections. En route, you will meet Dzos and other domestic animals grazing in the pastures. You might also find some colourful Himalayan Monal sputtering around the fields. After approximately 4 hours of hiking, you will reach the upper Viewpoint.

The Upper Viewpoint is located at an altitude of 4,200m/13,779ft, making this the trek’s highest point. Upon arriving here, you get a wholesome view of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The Panoramic view of mountains such as the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and many more is a phenomenal sight. After a heartfelt session of mountain viewing, you return to High Camp and spend the night there.

 Day 07: Trek down to Phedi and drive to Pokhara.

  • Altitude: 1,925m/6,315ft
  • Highlights: Local villages to meet the culturally rich communities, lush green forests, and landscape sceneries
  • Accommodation: Pokhara hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today, you make your return to Pokhara via Phedi. Phedi is approximately 6 hours of trek from High Camp. En route, you go through several villages where you meet people from different communities. Most villages here are populated with people from Gurung and a few Brahmin ethnicities. Upon reaching Phedi, you get on a vehicle and drive back to Pokhara. It is a short one-hour drive amidst nature, giving you a few scintillating landscape sceneries.

Day 08: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu

  • Altitude: 1,310m/4297ft
  • Highlights: Breathtaking scenery of diverse landscapes both on flight and drive. Winding highway hills and lush green hills have close-up views on the drive.
  • Accommodation: Kathmandu hotel
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

You will be heading back to Kathmandu today. Again, you may travel either by flight or by road. Nevertheless, both trips provide fantastic scenery. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you may rest at your hotel or explore the city. You will spend the night at your hotel getting ready to go home tomorrow.

Day 09: Departure from Kathmandu

Today you finally leave for home. Our representatives will drive you to the airport. With beautiful memories of adventurous moments from your journey, you will board your flight. As the flight takes off, you will take one last look at the diverse landscapes below you and wave goodbye to the Himalayas.

Conclusion

Spring or autumn is the best time for the Mardi Himal trek. Early spring occurs from April to May, and autumn occurs from October to November. These seasons offer clear weather for spectacular views and a suitable trekking atmosphere.
