Simikot Kailash Trek

Mount Kailash lies in the spiritual land of Tibet. The peak stands at 6,714 m and holds deep significance for Hindus and Buddhists. It is also one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Tibetans. Tourists are drawn by the region’s beautiful mountain scenery and spiritual significance, leaving them eager to explore. Each year, numerous tourists from around the world gather in Darchen to experience the mighty Mt. Kailash. The trek takes you on a surreal journey with thin air and extreme altitude. Such a religious experience is found nowhere else in the world.

On our 20-day journey to Mount Kailash, we travel along pilgrimage routes and trade links and cross into Tibet. You start by visiting Garuda Valley, believed to be the cradle of Tibetans in ancient times under the reigning kings. This was done long before Buddhism was founded. You finally reach Kora Valley by walking along ascending and descending trails. After three days of trekking in Kora Valley, you finally arrive at Mansarovar Lake.

This lake has a circumference of 90km, thus making it one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. It also holds religious significance, and many believe one’s sins are washed away after taking a dip in this holy water. After the lake, we move on to Saga and Zhangmu. After completing the necessary security needful, we will travel back to Kathmandu. The trek is moderate to strenuous, but the fun and adventure do not fit into the grading system. The best time to visit Mt Kailash is from February to May and October to December.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will greet you and take you to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today is a rest day, and you’ll visit different places in Kathmandu for sightseeing. Our representatives will also give you basic information about the plans, places, and precautions for the trip. Later in the day, you can stroll through the streets of Thamel.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

We flew to Nepalgunj in western Nepal. Nepalgunj is a town near the Indian border. This exciting town showcases diverse cultures, local food, and ethnic villages.

Day 04: ly to Simikot and trek to Dharapuri

We fly to Simikot (40 minutes) and feel wanderlust for the mountains’ beauty. Here, we can experience indigenous people and their culture, close to the Tibetans. From Simikot, we ascend and then descend the trails to Tuling. We walk through virgin jungles and villages along the Karnali River to Dharapuri.

Day 05: Dharapuri to Kermi

We walk on flat trails along the Karnali River. We can see fields cultivated with rice, potatoes, buckwheat, etc. Two hot springs near Kermi can relieve body aches. Once you reach Kermi, you can visit the Buddhist monasteries of Laikyo Gumba and Lhundrup Choeling Gumba. O/N at a tea house.

Day 06: Kermi to Yalbang

We ascend the steep trails to reach a small pass and cross a suspension bridge over the Salli River. You can see amazing views of the Pine trees and the Karnali River. You can also visit a monastery called Namkha Khyung Dzong.

Day 07: Yalbang to Tumkot

We ascend further and see big pine trees along the way. Upon reaching Tumkot, we can visit Dhungkar Choezom Gumba, an important Sakya monastery in the Tibetan region.

Day 08: Tumkot to Yari

Today’s trail is the most accessible yet most incredible crossing of the Karnali River. After an hour’s hike, we experience changes in topography, vegetation, and temperature. Due to differences in climate, you will see short, low bushes rather than trees in the way.

Day 09: Yari to Hilsa via Nara La pass

After a day of trekking, we finally reached Nara La Pass (4620m), where the landscape resembles Tibet. We could see the Tibetan plains and the village of Yari. Then we descended to Hilsa, a point for pilgrims heading to Mt. Kailash.

Day 10: Hilsa to Purang

We cross the Hilsa Bridge and ascend to Purang, bypassing Rinzing Zangpo Gumpa and Kangye Village along the trail. After reaching Purang, we will see Purang Gumba and 12th-century Buddhist paintings.

Day 11: Purang to Monster and sightseeing in Tirtapuri

After passing Rakshas and Mansarover lakes, we reach Monster. After a while, we visited Tirthapuri, located northwest of Mount Kailash. We saw the Tirthapuri hot springs, which feature Guru Rinpoche’s footprint. Later, we returned to Monster.

Day 12: Sightseeing of Garuda Valley, then transfer to Darchen

After 2 hours, we reach the Garuda Valley, southwest of Mt. Kailash. We can see the cradle of Tibetan civilization during the reign of the Shang Shung kings. Afterward, we move to Darchen, a small town in front of Mount Kailash.

Day 13: First day of Kora: hiking to DiraPukMonasterys

We walk in a valley through walls of red rocks and cross plains to Shershong. Later, cross a bridge that leads us to Chhuku Gumba and then to Dirapuk. Here you can see the fantastic view of Mt. Kailash (6638m).

Day 14: Second day of Kora: hike to Dzutul-puk

Today is the tricky part: we climb Dolma-la pass(5750m). We can see five-coloured praying flags. We descend to Dzutul-puk, and we experience amazing Thungje Zinbu and caves.

Day 15: Third day of Kora: hiking to Darchen

We walk towards Barka plain. After the holy Kora of Mt.Kailash at Darchen, we drive to Mansarovar Lake, which holds religious importance to Hindus and Buddhists. The lake is the significance of purity and spiritual belief.

Day 16: Tour of the Mansarovar Lake

Today, we take a tour of Mansarovar, which has a circumference of 90km, making it one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. It is believed that drinking or taking the holy dip in the lake will clear up your sins. We circle the lake in a vehicle and later visit Chui Gumba.

Day 17: Mansarovar to Saga

We drive through Hor Quo and Mayum La pass(5200m), where we can see small towns like Zhongba and Paryang. The journey takes us 270km from Mansarovar to Paryang and connects Saga, 255km from Paryang.

Day 18: Saga to Zhangmu

We drive from Saga to Nyalam for 2 hours and again to Zhangmu, the border town of Tibet.

 Verified My Everest Trip has helped me to achieve my EBC dream..
Trekking the EBC with My Everest Trip is one of my best hiking experiences. The initial contact with Puru, owner of the company, was smooth. He always gave me timely responses even though there are about 12 hours of time difference. Puru also made sure we were well taken care throughout the whole trip. He was at Kathmandu airport to pick us up, sent us to the hotel; He was on phone with different airlines to secure us a flight to Lukla when our flight had technical issues. After we were back in Kathmandu, he provided us with a private car to have a day tour of the city. During the trekking, our guide Shree, with his extensive experience on the trails, suggested us to hike counter-clockwise, which was the opposite of my original plan. I am so glad I took this advice and made our 12-day EBC-ChoLa Pass- Gokyo trekking a success. He also provided micro spikes and warm mittens for us. Without micro spikes we would not have crossed Cho-La Pass. I would highly recommend My Everest Trip to anyone who has the dream of hiking in the Himalayas.

 Verified EBC- Our most rewarding hiking trip
Our 12-day hiking experience to EBC couldn’t be enjoyable without the help of our guide Shree and porter Mitra. Shree’s experience on the trail gave us good advice to hike counter clockwise, Namche- EBC- Cho-la Pass- Gokyo-Namche. Even though we had a few days of bad weather, We never had any problems, but enjoyed spectacular views of the Himalaya mountains, valleys, and the ecosystem. we would highly recommend Shree and My Everest Trip for anybody that want to experience Mount Everest camp hike.

I can’t say enough incredible things about My Everest Trip, especially Puru (the owner) and Shree (my guide). From the very beginning, Puru was unbelievably responsive—patiently answering what must have felt like a billion questions and making me feel completely confident and prepared before even arriving in Nepal. Shree, my guide, was absolutely exceptional. I’m not the fastest trekker, but he never once made me feel rushed. He walked at my pace, constantly checked on how I was feeling, and took my health very seriously—making sure I stayed safe and avoided altitude sickness. His encouragement and positivity kept me going on the toughest days, and I truly don’t think I would have made it to Base Camp without him. What really sets this team apart is how far above and beyond they go. They helped customize my trip so I could spend a night at the iconic Everest View Hotel, which ended up being one of the highlights of the entire experience. They also handled all logistics seamlessly—securing the best tea houses and lounges along the route so I was always comfortable. Shree even helped me track down a tattoo studio in Namche, which turned out to be the highest tattoo studio in the world—such a unique and unforgettable addition to the journey! When weather delays impacted flights, they acted quickly and got me onto the second helicopter out—something that made all the difference in catching my return flight while others were stuck on the mountain. As a solo traveler, I always felt safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. Puru and Shree made sure I was comfortable every step of the way, turning what could have been a daunting experience into something unforgettable.  Verified Amazing Trip to EBC !
Our trip to EBC was amazing and an adventurous trip ! We were 4 hrs away from EBC and had to turn around due to a blizzard ( Snow storm ) and they had closed EBC due to amount of snow and risk. Since we had Shree with us, who was an absolute gentlemen, caring, and experienced, he guided us to a safe place. We walked down for 10 hrs in 3 feet of snow so that we can get rescued. I have to say that, without shree it wouldn't have been a great experience. I would highly recommend to hire Shree as your guide.

 Verified Unforgettable Adventure
My friend and I had the best time trekking to Everest Base Camp with our amazing local guide, Shree! We're from Alaska and fairly used to hiking, but found the expertise and assistance from My Everest Trip to be invaluable (we got a sleeping bag, trekking poles, a porter, and all of the details taken care of!) The real treat though was getting a glimpse of the Himalayan life from a local tour guide. From getting patient answers to many questions, introduced to local delicacies, to evening musical jam sessions in teahouses, this trip was an unforgettable adventure.

I went with my gal pal up to Everest Base Camp and we had the BEST TIME EVER!!!!!! Puru did a fine job with taking care of the logistics, Pitas was a mighty fine porter, and saving the best for last, Shree is the BEST GUIDE IN NEPAL!!!!! Shree took very good care of us and made sure we are healthy and having fun. We are the dream team!!!!  Verified I recently completed a 14-day trek in the Himalayas , around Ama Dablam and Gokyo lake, and I really enjoyed it. Our guide Shree was professional, calm, positive and knew the route very well. He checked our health on the altitude, kept us organized, and made sure everything went smoothly. We had to change the route due to the weather and Shree was very flexible, suggested options to us which I appreciated very much . If you’re planning a trek, I definitely recommend him.

Everything was very well organised, and MP, our guide, was very helpful and ensured we were always able to acclimatise without any issues. Mahesh, our porter, was also great.
