Overview

The Mohare Danda Trek is one of the most beautiful and peaceful short treks in Nepal’s Annapurna region. It offers breathtaking Himalayan scenery, village life, and serene forest walks without the enormous crowds found on some well-known trekking paths. This is a trip that any traveler would enjoy, with the beauty of the Himalayas, yet also a chance to explore the true culture and nature. The trail is less busy, so the trip becomes more intimate and leisurely than on other popular trekking routes.

The Mohare Danda Trek typically starts with a beautiful drive from Pokhara to Galeshwor, followed by days of walking through villages, terraced fields, and green forests. Along the route, you may visit villages such as Banskharka, Nangi, and Tikot, where you can find community lodges and homestays. These villages offer trekkers the opportunity to experience life in rural Nepal and interact with hospitable local families. Mohare Danda is the highest point of the Mohare Danda Trek, at 3,300 m (10,827 ft), and trekkers will have a stunning panoramic view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.

One unique feature of this trek is that it was developed as a community-based tourism project. This implies that the lodges, services, and tourism revenues have a direct impact on the local villages. When visiting the Mohare Danda Trek, you can contribute to local communities while enjoying a unique and significant trekking experience. The path cuts through beautiful rhododendron forests, which are particularly colorful in spring when the flowers are in bloom.

Why Mohare  Danda Trek?

This trek is popular among travelers who want a short adventure but still enjoy incredible mountain views. The 5-day Mohare Danda trek is the most common way to complete the journey, making it a great choice for those with limited time in Nepal. The Mohare Danda trek route is designed to ascend slowly through forests and hills to the picturesque Mohare Danda ridge. It is relatively easy, and beginners with basic fitness can do it, unlike longer Himalayan routes.

In general, the Mohare Danda Trek is an amazing combination of mountain views, scenic roads, and local culture. With proper organization and support from experienced teams like My Everest Trip (MET), trekkers can enjoy a safe, comfortable, and memorable journey through one of Nepal’s hidden Himalayan gems.

Daily Itinerary

Day 01

Drive from Pokhara to Galeshwor and Trek to Banskharka

The Mohare Danda Trek begins in Pokhara, where you meet your guide and prepare for the journey. From Pokhara, you take a scenic drive west toward Galeshwor near Beni, which is the starting point of the trek. The journey will last approximately five hours, and it is along the beautiful Kali Gandaki River. In the process, you will encounter terraced farmlands, traditional villages, and green hillsides, which depict the day-to-day life of the Nepalese rural life. On the drive, you will take a lunch stop before you reach Galeshwor at about 1,170 m (3,839 ft), where the trek commences.

You start walking fromGaleshwor, passing a suspension bridge across the Kali Gandaki River. The road then instantly ascends the hill using stone steps and narrow footways that cross small farms and orchards. Oranges, lemons, and plums are the products that are predominant in this area. The climb is not very long but gradual, and you will make stops to rest and relax to view the scenery. When the sky is clear, you may even have a glimpse of the mountains of Dhauligiri in the distance.

Some three hours of walking lead to the Banskharka village, 1,525 m (5,003 ft) above sea level. You will be staying in a community lodge or homestay with simple rooms and a communal place to eat. In the evening, you can have a traditional Nepali dinner cooked by your hosts and rest after spending your first day on the trek.

You will have a slow hiking process, which takes approximately 3 hours. At times, it may not be easy, but with frequent breaks and stunning scenery, the trip is enjoyable. Day 03

Trek from Nangi Village to Mohare Danda

Today you start your trek to Mohare Danda, the highest point in the trip, after having had breakfast in Nangi Village at 2,300 m (7,546 ft). The path goes through beautiful woods of oak, pine, and rhododendron. The higher you are, the cooler the air is, and the surrounding seems to be more distant and silent than when you are in the lower villages.

In the morning, the path leads slowly up a winding path through a thick forest. The trees are shaded with sunlight, and you will be able to hear birds or observe mountain wildlife on the way. There are no villages and shops between Nangi and Mohare Danda, so you should bring enough drinking water with you. After three or so hours of walking, you arrive at a clear space or basic shelter about 3,000 m (9,843 ft), which is where you have your lunch.

Following lunch, the trail has a few gentle rises and falls on a ridge. With the forest starting to clear, the landscape becomes open, and you are able to see broad vistas of valleys around. Little by little, the trail becomes steeper and steeper: it starts rising to the top of the ridge.

Towards the end of the afternoon, you arrive at Mohare Danda at 3,300 m (10,827 ft). The lodge is located on a high elevation, where the mountain views are spectacular, with 360 degrees. The view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Nilgiri, and Machhapuchhre can be seen here. Then, after the sunset and relaxing atmosphere of the mountain, you have dinner in the lodge and go to sleep.

The day starts very early in the day at Mohare Danda 3,300 m (10,827 ft) to observe the great sunrise over the Himalayas. When the first light falls on the mountains of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range, the mountains are illuminated with the colors of gold and pink. This is one of the most memorable moments of the trek, which is peaceful.

You get to the lodge after watching the sunrise, and then you get to eat a warm breakfast before starting on the descent to Tikot Village. The path goes down into the ravine of rhododendron woods. During spring, the forest is colorful with the pink, red, and white flowers blooming. The path is primarily downhill, and thus one should walk slowly and cautiously to ensure that their knees are not harmed.

On the route, there are tranquil forest tracks, open fields, and some grazing fields where local livestock graze. You can see Poon Hillfrom a distance. Part of the trail is also linked to a small dirt road that gets used by the locals.

In the early afternoon, you arrive at Tikot Village 2,200 m (7,218 ft). Tikot is a beautiful Magar village where there are stone houses and terraces of land. You do not stay in a big lodge but in a local homestay with a nice family. You can go sightseeing around the village, have a traditional dinner, and have a relaxing evening with local culture.

The path is steep and passes down terraced agricultural areas and tiny villages. You ascend slowly down the hill slope on stone steps on your way to the Kali Gandaki River valley.

With the drop in altitude, the temperature becomes warmer. On the way, you walk past the houses and small farms of the local people and fields where people cultivate crops. The views of the valley below gradually become nearer as one continues the descent.

The next stop is Tippyang, which is approximately 1,100 m (3,609 ft) after 3 or 4 hours of walking. This is a tiny village located along the road close to the Kali Gandaki River. Now the trekking is over. You have a jeep that will be waiting to take you back to Pokhara.

Additional Information

Trek Difficulty, Challenges & Trail Conditions

Mohare Danda Trek is a moderate trek with a few tough parts, and this implies that it is suitable for beginners who are in good fitness. There are numerous uphill and downhill walks in the trail, particularly in the first two days.

You will be walking 5 to 6 hours per day, predominantly on stone steps, village walks, and forest walks. The highest point of the trek is Mohare Danda (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), and thus, altitude is not much of an issue, but the extensive uphill ascents might feel fatiguing.

The trail is not technical, and thus, no climbing skills are required. But there are bits which are narrow, rocky, rough, or muddy in the rain. Pain in the knees can be experienced in the down runs. Trekking poles and good trekking shoes are quite helpful.

The Mohare Danda Trek is fun and doable for the majority of trekkers, should you prepare through walking or stair practice prior to the trek.

Best Time and Seasonal Weather Guide

The spring and autumn months are considered the best season to do the Mohare Danda Trek since the weather is mostly good and clear.

The most popular season is autumn, in the period between September and November. The sky is blue and clear after the monsoon, and the mountain scenery is frequently superb. Days are fine, nights are cold in higher altitude towards Mohare Danda at (3,300 m / 10,827 ft).

Another good time is spring, which is from March to May. The season is known by the flowers of rhododendron, which are of many colors and bloom all over the hills. Mornings are usually sunny, and the weather is not too hot. It is a beautiful season to complete the short Mohare Danda trek, in case you are fond of nature and flowers.

Winter is colder but less noisy, it has fewer trekkers and extremely clear skies. Monsoon is the least favourable season since the trails are muddy, slippery, and cloudy between June and early September. Spring and autumn are preferable for an overall experience.

Food and Drink

Food in the Mohare Danda Trek is basic, fresh, and nutritious. All the meals are served in the community lodges and homestays; hence, you can expect homemade Nepali food.

The meal most often eaten is dal bhat, which consists of rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickles. It is warm, nutritive and ideal after a tireless day of walking. You can also have fried rice, noodles, potatoes, soup, pancakes, eggs, and, at times, momos. The menu is not that big, though the food is generally good and provides you with the necessary energy.

One of the major aspects of the trekking activity is tea. The tea that is widely offered includes black tea, milk tea, ginger tea, and coffee. It is highly essential to use safe water when on the Mohare Danda trek itinerary, and one should not use untreated tap water. The ideal is boiled water, purified water, or filtered water.

Carry a reusable bottle and have frequent drinks. Hydration assists in terms of energy, recovery, and adapting to elevated altitude, particularly around (3,300 m / 10,827 ft).

Transportation and Accommodation during the Trek

The Mohare Danda Trek is typically based in Pokhara. You take a drive from Pokhar to Galeshwor, and that takes about 4 to 5 hours. It is a scenic drive as it goes through rivers, hills, and rural villages. The trek is followed by a jeep ride back in the lower trail section, in either Tippyang or Baseri, and then back to Pokhara and the end. It has rough roads in a few places, but the landscape on the route is very fascinating.

There is simple accommodation on the trek. You will be staying in community lodges and local homestays, making the trek more personal and authentic. The rooms are basic, and they have twin beds, blankets, and shared toilets.

There are a few facilities, but the hospitality is friendly. There might be a hot shower at Nangi at (2,300 m / 7,546 ft) at an extra charge. The lodge is more basic and rustic at Mohare Danda at (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), yet the sunrise and mountain views are very special.

Altitude, Acclimatization, and Risk of Altitude Sickness

The reason why the Mohare Danda Trek is famous is the fact that it does not have to climb from ground-level to extreme heights to have marvelous Himalayan scenery. The summit is Mohare Danda at (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), highly insignificant compared to numerous other trekking trails in Nepal. Due to this fact, the threat of severe altitude sickness is very low to the majority of people. Nevertheless, people do not respond to elevation in the same way, and it is better to be aware of that and pay attention to your body.

The trek climbs slowly from around 1,170 m (3,839 ft) at the beginning of the trail to 2,300 m (7,546 ft) at Nangi and then on to the summit. This assists your body in the process. It can be that some trekkers experience some light headaches, insomnia, or attempt to breathe short of breath, particularly on the first night at a higher altitude. These symptoms are not severe, and they are generally accompanied by rest, slow pacing, and enough drinking water.

The 5-day trek to Mohare Danda is a short distance, and therefore, the best practices to keep up with comfort and safety are a consistent pace and proper hydration.

Required Fitness Level & Trek Preparation Tips

There is no need to have expert trekking experience forthe Mohare Danda Trek, but you are supposed to be reasonably fit.

As you are going to walk 5-6 hours per day on hills, stone steps, and forest trails, it is a good idea to arrange yourself in advance of the trip. The initial two days are the toughest days due to the protracted uphill climbs.

When you are able to walk a few hours and can manage the stairs, and it does not bother you much, then you are already on the right track.

To train, warm up to walk, hike, climb stairs, and perform light cardio activities such as biking or jogging. Simple exercises like squats and lunges can also help strengthen your legs. The shoes you intend to wear should be practised in first before the trek starts.

The climb and descent can be made easier with the help of trekking poles. It is a nicer experience when you are physically prepared to do the Mohare Dada trek.

The psychological preparation is also important. Slow it down, rest, and admire the view, and bear in mind that slow walking is more vital than speed in mountain trails.

Permits, Entry Fees, and Nepal Visa

To do the Mohare Danda Trek, you require two key permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. The reason why these are needed is that the trek is located within the Annapurna area.

The ACAP assists in the conservation of the communities living in the area, and the TIMS card assists in keeping the trekkers safe and registered. My Everest Trip (MET) organises all the permits on your behalf if you book this trek with us. You will have to carry your permits with you on the trek, and you might be checked on the way.

The majority of foreign tourists require a tourist visa to Nepal. In most instances, a visa is usually granted at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu airport upon arrival. The passport must have a duration of at least six months. Carrying a few passport photos and some cash to pay for visa and permit procedures is also prudent in case they are required.

The route can also be extended to other nearby destinations, making it a flexible option for trekkers. It is a great alternative for those who want beautiful mountain views without needing special restricted-area permits.

Health, Safety, and Emergency Support

The Mohare Danda Trek is very concerned with health and safety. The trail is believed to be safe, and it is regularly used by the local people. Nevertheless, normal precautions are to be considered by trekkers.

Drink clean water, wash hands regularly, and always have a small personal first aid kit containing basic medicine, blister care, and any personal medication. Because the trek goes as high as (3,300 m / 10,827 ft, severe altitude sickness is hardly common, yet mild cases might occur; therefore, walk at a slow pace and keep yourself hydrated.

The trail is not very dangerous, though certain parts may be steep, muddy, or slippery, particularly after it rains. It is always advisable to stick with your guide and listen to them. At villages and lodges, all are friendly and helpful, and the Mohare Danda Trek is comfortable for most of the first-time trekkers.

During an emergency, the guides can organize support, local transportation, or a helicopter rescue, in case of necessity. That is the reason why emergency evacuation cover on travel insurance is highly advisable prior to beginning the trek.

Travel Insurance and Coverage

The Mohare Danda Trek will be highly reliant on travel insurance, and it is highly encouragedthat all trekkers purchase the insurance. Although this is a moderate trek, some unforeseen issues might occur.

Your insurance must include emergency medical services, hospital services, and helicopter evacuation. The highest point of the trek is (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), so it is safer to have such a policy that admits trekking at least to (4,000 m / 13,123 ft). This is one of the most critical components of your policy because helicopter rescue in Nepal is quite costly.

Your insurance may also cover trip cancellation, delays, lost luggage, and stolen valuables. In case you fall ill before visiting or change your travel plans, insurance will save you a great deal of money. Carry a copy of your insurance information with you and provide it to MET upon departure. Quality coverage brings comfort on the trip.

Mobile Network, Internet & Charging Facilities

In the course of the Mohare Danda Trek, there is no guaranteed coverage of mobile signal and internet most of the time, and thus it is not advisable to expect a strong connection on a daily basis.

You can experience good network coverage in the lower parts, such as Galeshwor and Banskharka. Mobile signal is occasionally available in Nangi at (2,300 m / 7,546 ft), particularly on local Nepali SIM cards. The Wi-Fi at the lodge at Mohare Danda at (3,300 m / 10,827 ft) is usually unstable and can be cut off during poor weather.

It means that the trek is an opportunity to stop spending so much time on a screen and appreciate the mountains.

You can charge your electronic devices at lodges, normally with a minimal additional charge. Carry a fully charged power bank. It is also recommended that trekkers should prepare offline maps, contacts, and travel documents before leaving Pokhara.

Language, Culture & Local Etiquette on the Trail

The Mohare Danda Trek is not simply a mountain and nature trek; it is also an interaction with the locals and the village life. On your way, you will cross the communities mainly occupied by Magar and Gurung families.

The majority of the population speaks Nepali, with some basic English too, particularly in lodges and homestays. A smile and a simple Namaste do wonders and help find a way to establish a friendly relationship.

The culture on the trailisa warm, respectful, and welcoming one. Individuals reside near nature, and many of them engage in agricultural activities, animal care, and community tours.

In the villages, dress decently and do not take pictures of individuals or houses without permission. You should take off your shoes when going into someone’s house and do what your guide tells you to do in an area close to temples or places of worship.

The Mohare Danda Trek would be all the more meaningful when you interact with the local culture in a friendly and considerate manner.

Your Extra Expenses

Most of the basic services are included in the Mohare Danda Trek by My Everest Trip (MET), but you will always need some extra funds so that you can spend them personally.

The additional drinks, snacks, soft drinks, bottled water, hot showers, charging equipment, and Wi-Fi may be included as extra costs in the daily spending. The mountains have a high price due to the fact that products have to be transported to such heights.

As an illustration, tea or snacks will be expensive at Nangi (2,300 m / 7,546 ft) or around Mohare Danda (3,300 m / 10,827 ft) when compared to Pokhara.

Another popular additional expense is tipping. Although it is not mandatory, most trekkers tip their guide and porter at the end of the trek to show their appreciation for what these people helped them do. You can also desire purchasing small local goods or handmade souvenirs in village stores.

My Everest Trip (MET) recommends carrying enough Nepali rupees in small notes when you are leaving Pokhara, as there are no ATMs on the trail.

Side Trips Around Mohare Danda

With additional time, severa lexciting side trips and extensions of the route can be taken with the Mohare Danda Trek. One of the most popular trails is to combine the trek with Poon Hill that provides you with another famous image of the sunrise.

A lengthier alternative is Khopra Danda, which provides more mountain views and less noise on the trail. These extensions are excellent for the trekkers who wish to spend an extra few days exploring the Annapurna region.

The other, smaller local side trips are also there. You can visit the village, community projects, or the viewpoints of the village at Nangi at (2,300 m / 7,546 ft). Even further views and photo spots can be had in short walks around Mohare Danda at (3,300 m / 10,827 ft) near the ridge.

Some tourists even like to spend additional time in Tikot or villages around it to know more about life in the country.

These options can be made by my Everest Trip (MET), in case you wish to extend your short Mohare Danda trek and make it more fun.

Photography Tips & Drone Regulations

The Mohare Danda Trek provides one with a great photography opportunity. The best time to take pictures are in sunrise and sunset, particularly that of Mohare Danda (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), where the scenery of Dhauligari and Annapurna is expansive and dramatic.

Keep your smartphone or camera easily accessible because the weather and lighting in the mountains can change very quickly. Village, forest paths, village inhabitants, and rhododendron flowers are beautiful themes. It is worth trying to use people in your photographs occasionally because it brings vibrancy as well as size to the scenery.

You should be careful in case you want to fly a drone. Drone usage in Nepal may need permission, particularly in conservation and protected zones. One should adhere to the local regulations and respect the privacy of people in the villages. Ask before flying over houses or lodges. My Everest Trip (MET) advises that you should not forget to verify the most recent permit process beforehand. On a Mohare Danda trek itinerary, drone flights can be more challenging than simple photography.

Trek Extensions

Having completed the Mohare Danda Trek, several travelers get motivated to explore more in Nepal. The simplest alternative is to spend a little more time in Pokhara and relax along the lakeside, make short hikes, or see the culture.

You may want another trek, then you can proceed with Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, and even Annapurna Base Camp, depending on your time and fitness. These paths have varied scenery and experiences, from forest ridges to higher mountain valleys.

Mohare Danda isa good warm-up trek prior to attempting longer and higher routes because it goes as high as 3,300 m / 10,827 ft. Some trekkers take this trek to get warmed up before they decide to go on a larger expedition in Nepal.

If you want to have a cultural extension, you may visit the villages, the hot springs around, or even go to Chitwan to have some wildlife experience.

My Everest Trip (MET) has the ability to build a personalized itinerary to suit your interests. The 5-day trek to Mohare Danda is not a long one, yet it can be easily included in a larger and more unforgettable Nepal experience.

Tips for First-Time Trekkers in Nepal

The Mohare Danda Trek is a very good option if it is your first trekking trip in Nepal. It is not excessively extended, the sceneries are beautiful, and the elevation is not so overwhelming as many other Himalayan trails.

The peak is Mohare Danda at (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), and hence you do not have to travel too much higher, but still you have a true mountain experience. To prepare your body, do some walking, light hiking, or climb some steps before the trek. Bring good shoes, layered clothes, a rain jacket, and a reusable water bottle.

Move slowly and leisurely. Walk carefully at a slow pace. Take plenty of water, have your meals, and listen to your guides. Bring money; there are no ATMs on the trail. Courteously appreciate local culture, meet them in a friendly way and in a clean trail.

My Everest Trip (MET) is aimed at making first-time trekkers feel safe, perfect, and prepared to have fun throughout their trip.
