Overview

Discover the majesty of Lake Tilicho and the breathtaking region of Annapurna, a true wonder of Nepal, all the while comfortably seated in a helicopter during our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour.

Leave behind your hiking boots and forget about the endless traffic on the trails, just be ready to enjoy the best prime spot to admire the grandiose mountain and landscape panorama of Annapurna and Lake Tilicho within just a three to four-hour timeframe.

If you have less time on your hands, if you can’t handle the challenging multiday trekking experience, if you wish to save your precious travel days, but still wish to capture all the splendor of Annapurna and Lake Tilicho, then the Annapurna Tilicho Lake helicopter tour is your essential trip.

Why is Lake Tilicho a special destination?

At one point, Lake Tilicho was known to the world as the highest alpine/mountain lake in the world. Today, it may not be the highest, but it is the largest glacial lake in Annapurna.

The terrain around the lake is Mars-like, surrounded by the imposing yet beautiful Himalayan peaks. The peace here is extraordinary; many travelers reported experiencing a profound inner awakening during their stay.

The lake has also gained attention for its remarkable records. Till 2019, it was the highest scuba dive location. It is also the location where the highest altitude song recording took place under the leadership of Dr. Upadhyaya.

Likewise, in April 2025, Jayjit Sen from Howrah set the record for the fastest motorcycle expedition and trek to Tilicho Lake.

Spiritually, the lake is often called Kagbhusundi Saravor/Lake from the Ramayana, connected to saint Kag Bhusundi.

Thus, the combination of natural beauty, spirituality, solitude, adventure, and majestic mountains makes Lake Tilicho a truly special place.

Memorable High Points of Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour

  • Taking off from Kathmandu or Pokhara

One of the advantages of our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour is that you can select to depart from either Kathmandu or Pokhara. Each city will offer you a distinct entry to the Himalayan paradise.

If you leave from Kathmandu, you will be able to quickly escape the chaos of the city and embrace the tranquility of the towering mountains. If you head from Pokhara, you will have an immediate view of the enchanting Annapurna and Fishtail peaks.

Regardless of whether you choose to take off from Kathmandu or Pokhara, you will see the beautiful transformation of the early morning sky into a vibrant canvas of colors, which is truly unforgettable.

  • A one-and-a-half-hour flight in the sky over Annapurna

You will be enjoying the one and a half hours flight in the comfortable and prime seat of the heli immersing yourself in the aerial panorama of Pokhara, Lake Phewa, the diverse terrain of the Annapurna conservation area, and the splendid silhouettes of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains, along with the base camp of Tilicho and the lake itself.

Soon, you will be able to see the impressive shades of green and blue of Lake Tilicho creating a deceptive illusion, a truly unique sight to observe from the heights. If the weather is remarkably clear, you may also be able to see the high Thorong La Pass.

  • An Exciting Landing in the Harsher Rocky Terrain of the Lake

Lake Tilicho is encircled by a stark landscape of steep rocks and snow, which can considerably complicate the landings and takeoffs from the Lake.

In addition, the notorious high-altitude mountain weather also adds to the challenge. Thus, landing experience at the lake is also a unique adventure.

The expert way with which our pilot brings down and lands the heli in the unwelcoming terrain of the Lake will surely enhance your thrill.

  • 20-minute Landing at the Shore of Lake Tilicho

In our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour, we offer you an exclusive 20-minute landing at Lake Tilicho, where you will find yourself embraced by the magnificent peaks of Tilicho, Nilgiri, Khangsar Kang, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Chulu, Annapurna I to IV, Lamjung, Tukuche, Dhaulagiri, and Peak 29.

You will not meet any other soul; just you, the mountains, and the peaceful silence, which will force you to connect with your inner being.

The charming tea house there will also offer you warm comfort with hot tea or coffee and a traditional Nepali breakfast, making your short yet personal experience with the lake even more alluring.

But before you reach your destination, you will see the bustling city of Pokhara from the sky and ascend over the lush vegetation of the majestic Annapurna villages, including the Gurung community areas of Lata Marang, Chame, Danakyu, and more.

You will also fly above the impressive high peaks of Langtang, Manaslu, Annapurna, Lamjung, and others. From the heights of the sky, the breathtaking dry alpine landscape of Pisang and Manang will unfold before you.

Soon, you will fly over the Chongkor viewpoint (3900 m) alongside the white glacial lake of Gangapurna in Manang Village. You will also approach the river gorge created by the rivers flowing down from Tilicho and Thorong La, a true delight for nature lovers.

You may also have the view of the Thorong La Pass, the world’s tallest mountain hiking pass (if the weather is remarkably clear). Then, the uniquely shaped Tilicho Peak will appear, sending shivers down your spine, indicating you are soaring above the Tilicho Base Camp (4150 m).

Before long, our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour will arrive at its highlight, landing right on the shores of Lake Tilicho. Here, you will be captivated by the phenomenal beauty of the lake, with its intense blue hue that changes its color with the changing angle of sunlight.

Be enchanted by the unique charm, the remarkable quietness, the absence of people, and the grand presence of Tilicho, Nilgiri, Khangsar Kang, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Chulu, Annapurna I to IV, Lamjung, Tukuche, Dhaulagiri, and Peak 29.

After approximately 20 minutes of stopover, the helicopter will begin its return trip to Kathmandu.

This daily available tour is most enjoyable during the clear skies of spring, autumn, and winter in Nepal. So do not delay any further, come to witness the brilliance of Lake Tilicho and Annapurna with our ultimate Tilicho Lake helicopter tour, one of the best adventures you can have in Nepal.

Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour One Day Itinerary

6:00 AM: Early wake-up and getting ready for the adventure

Rise and shine bright and early, and get ready for the splendid adventure of the Tilicho Lake helicopter tour. Have a light breakfast and prepare a daypack filled with necessary items such as a water bottle, sunglasses, gloves, sunscreen, lip balm, and layered clothing.

Also, make sure to pack your passports, camera, and mobile phone, along with some light snacks for the journey.

6:30 AM: Hotel Pickup to transfer to TIA, 30 min

Our guide will be waiting for you at your hotel lounge with a private vehicle and driver to take you to TIA. Enjoy the 30-minute travel along the quiet road of the capital with the distant sight of Langtang, Manaslu, and Ganesh peaks.

Once we are at TIA, we will quickly check in and efficiently complete the boarding procedures. The authorities will examine our passports, and they will also weigh our luggage.

All the formal procedures will be complete within half an hour, after which we will receive our boarding pass. Until we receive permission to board for flying, we will wait at the TIA lounge for the announcement.

Meanwhile, the concerned TIA authorities will verify the weather and complete the technical verification of the helicopter we will be flying in. Once we have our confirmation announcement, we will head to the TIA helipad.

We will meet and greet our chopper pilot, who will then guide us through the safety procedures for our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour. He will teach you how to enter and exit the heli, how to fasten the seat belts, how to put on and communicate with headphones, how to lock the doors, and how to safely take the photos and videos.

Next, we will get in our shuttle and wait for it to take off. Each of our passenger will have the window seat on their turn to see the grand panorama beneath.

7:00 AM: Take off towards Lake Tilicho, 4919 m, 1.30 hours (may stop at Manang Airport for refueling)

Our shuttle will now take off from TIA towards the northwest towards Lake Tilicho in the Manang District of the Annapurna region. Enjoy the magical eye-pleasing view below, along with the fun commentary shared by our pilot throughout the flight.

Slowly, you will pass by the magnificent Pokhara, Phewa Lake, and the yellowish-green fields and hills of several small villages, including Lata Marang and Chame.

You will also see the powerful rushing currents of the great Marshyangdi River flowing beneath. Our aerial panorama will now transform into the barren, dry sandy terrain of Pisang and then Manang. If necessary, we may have a short stop at Manang Airport for helicopter refueling.

Once we take off again, you will also see the passing view of the Chongkor viewpoint (3900 m) along with the white glacial lake of Gangapurna.

You may also observe the gorge created by the water erosion of two rivers flowing from the Thorong La and Tilicho peaks. Now, the landscape adorned with high alpine shrubs of Khangsar and Shree Kharka will soon reveal the Tilicho Base Camp (4150 m) below.

However, our pilot will fly us directly to the shore of Lake Tilicho, allowing us to pass over the small stone houses of the base camp and the towering Tilicho peak.

Soon enough, Lake Tilicho will appear before us, and our pilot will land us safely amidst the high alpine scenery, filled with bare rocks and snow.

8:30 AM: Landing at Lake Tilicho and Exploration for 15 to 20 minutes

Congratulations, our heli has landed us in one of the most outstandingly breathtaking location of Annapurna where we can see the expansive length of Lake Tilicho.

The peace of this place is truly otherworldly and welcoming. It feels like a large Himalayan arena where we will be surrounded by the high, imposing snowy walls of Tilicho, Nilgiri, Khangsar Kang, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Chulu, Annapurna I to IV, Lanjung, Tukuche, Dhaulagiri, and Peak 29.

There is even a tiny yet comforting tea house where we can enjoy hot tea and a light Nepali breakfast. However, the temperature here will be very cold, and due to the high altitude, the winds can be quite strong. Therefore, we will only stay here for about 20 minutes to avoid altitude sickness and hypothermia.

8:50 AM: Flight back to TIA, 1.30 hours

After our short stopover at Lake Tilicho, we will now descend to TIA with baggage full of great smiles and photos.

9:10 AM: Arrival at TIA and hotel transfer

Once we land at TIA again, we will offer you a Tilicho Lake helicopter tour completion certificate. Then, we will take you back to your accommodation in the capital, ending our service.

Best Time and Season for the Annapurna Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour

The Annapurna Tilicho Lake helicopter tour offers an exquisite experience throughout Nepal, in every season. However, the best time for the tour is spring, autumn, winter, and clear days during the summer and monsoon.

In particular, the months from September to November (autumn) are the best time, as it is also the high season for the helicopter tour in Nepal, due to milder temperatures, clearer visibility, bluer skies, and stunning mountain panoramas. Lake Tilicho will also be unfrozen, beautifully reflecting the surrounding peaks.

In spring (March-May), pleasant weather with minimal scattered rain is expected, which will not disrupt helicopter flights. This season also transforms the Annapurna and Tilicho landscapes into a magical pink hue from the blooming rhododendrons.

Winter (December to February) brings cold mornings, but the days are immensely bright and clear, although Lake Tilicho will be solidly frozen during this period.

Summer, from June to August, is characterized by intense heat and constant rain, so we have to wait for dry days to proceed with our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour.

Your Safety during the Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour

Helicopter tours in Nepal are often falsely marketed as unsafe. However, we assure you that all helicopter tours in Nepal are entirely safe, and you will have a 100 percent secure journey.

For each of our heli tours, we work with airlines that operate premium helicopters, equipped with the latest technology. The helicopter will have a spacious cabin and large windows for unparalleled visibility.

They are also lightweight twin-engine aircraft that feature advanced technologies, including a breakthrough tail rotor that reduces noise and enhances flight control efficiency.

Additionally, a highly qualified and experienced helicopter pilot, who meets global safety standards, will accompany you on your amazing Tilicho Lake helicopter tour.

They receive timely training updates, and their licenses are also renewed on time. To ensure their decision-making capabilities are to the highest standard, their mental health is also consistently evaluated.

Similarly, the airport personnel will take every measure to ensure your Tilicho Lake helicopter tour is 100% safe. Maintaining optimal weight in a helicopter based on the altitude, assessing fuel levels, technical review, and weather update for safe take off and landing; everything will be verified.

You will also be given safety instructions before you board the helicopter from the assigned airport. For your added safety, we have limited the landing time at Lake Tilicho to 20 minutes due to its high altitude (nearly 5000 m) and unpredictable weather.

If necessary, oxygen bottles will be available, and our pilot will assist you in any way possible.

Safety Guidelines to be followed by you as a Responsible Passenger

  • Inform our pilot at once if you experience any discomfort.

Who do we recommend the Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour to?

Our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour generally accommodates all ages, including children and seniors, because it is comfortable and low-exertion.

Although there is no specific age requirement, we recommend that passengers aged 5 to 80 who join the tour with children under 12 be accompanied by an adult.

However, our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour reaches nearly 5000 m, so we recommend that people with serious heart or respiratory disorders consult a doctor before participating.

If you are in excellent health, then this tour is an ideal option for those who prefer not to spend days on remote trails. It is also perfect for individuals with disabilities or anyone seeking a more comfortable way to experience Tilicho Lake.

You can also make the tour a complete family vacation with your loved ones by booking privately.

Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS or Altitude Sickness

There will be an abrupt change in altitude in our Annapurna Tilicho Lake helicopter tour. Starting from an altitude of 1350 m above Kathmandu, you will reach an altitude of almost 5000 m above Lake Tilicho in a matter of only 1 and a half hours.

An abrupt change in altitude may lead to milder symptoms of AMS, such as headache, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, tachycardia, and shortness of breath.

To minimize the impact of Lake Tilicho’s high altitude, we have limited the landing time at the lake to 20 minutes. During this short stay, if you notice any of the signs of AMS, please tell our pilot at once.

While monitoring your condition, you may provide oxygen and immediately transport you to a comfortable elevation. If you don’t have any allergies or other health conditions that would prevent it, you may also take Diamox after breakfast in Kathmandu.

We kindly request that you keep drinking water on the flight and practice deep breathing.

Preparation needed for the Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour

Our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour is a low-exertion alternative tour to the more demanding Annapurna Circuit Tilicho Lake trek. Therefore, this tour doesn’t require any physical training; you only need to be in good health for an optimal experience.

However, you should be ready for cold weather and climate changes, so we recommend preparing yourself appropriately, which includes:

  • Wearing layered clothing such as a windproof/down jacket, thermal inner layers, gloves, and a hat.
  • Wear comfortable walking boots for exploring Lake Tilicho.
  • Make sure to carry necessary documents such as your passport, photo, and permits
  • Bring high-altitude medicine if you are prone to AMS.
  • Also carry sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, a camera/GoPro, and a reusable water bottle.

Kindly note that there are no hidden fees for our Annapurna Tilicho Lake helicopter tour. We offer you VIP treatment and a classy travel experience at a remarkably affordable price, with options to choose between budget group travel and a private option.

Our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour package includes your airport transfers, domestic taxes, helicopter fare, permit fees, and oxygen costs. Our tips to reduce the cost of your Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour

If you want both personal experience and low cost, we suggest you bring together your close family members or friends and travel as a group. This way, you will receive a group discount and a private journey.

Next, choose to take the tour during the off-holiday season, such as monsoon/summer or winter. You will have significant savings during these times due to reduced flight, accommodation, and travel costs.

You should also avoid carrying excess baggage, as airlines often charge extra fees for extra weight. And avoid buying a water bottle at the tea house in Lake Tilicho. Instead, bring your own water bottle and refill it at the tea house if needed.

Accommodation, Meals, and Transportation

Because the Tilicho Lake helicopter tour is not a full one-day journey, we haven’t included your accommodation or meals in Kathmandu or Pokhara. If you want to have tea or breakfast atou will have to buy it there Lake Tilicho,

However, we do offer private domestic airport transfers and helicopter fares.

Annapurna Tilicho Lake Helicopter Tour or Annapurna Circuit Trek with Lake Tilicho

The Annapurna Circuit Trek with Lake Tilicho offers the ultimate high-mountain hiking adventure along remote, lonely trails in the Annapurna region. This trek offers you the beautiful combination of incredible mountains, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural encounters.

From the lower villages of the Annapurna, you will reach the Manang and Tilicho Lake. Then, you will overcome the 5416 m high Thorong La, the tallest hiking pass.

Following this, you will descend to Muktinath and proceed to the Kali Gandaki Valley, inhabited by the delightful Thakali people. You will have the chance to visit Jomsom, Kagbeni, and Marpha, and enjoy a relaxing day in Pokhara.

This complete journey lasts 14 to 17 days and reveals every splendid aspect of the Annapurna region. However, not everyone can take part in this demanding trek, but almost everyone dreams of seeing and experiencing the towering mountains.

A Tilicho Lake helicopter tour, therefore, offers these dreamers a way to achieve their goals more quickly and within their budget. However, you will likely miss the close interactions with the Gurung, Manang, and Thakali communities, as well as the personal journey over Thorong La Pass.

Still, it allows you to be near the majestic Annapurna Himalayas. Thus, the final choice depends on your time, needs, preferences, and budget.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is essential for any helicopter tours in Nepal. For our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour, we need to obtain specific permits, which require the appropriate travel insurance that must remain active throughout your stay in Nepal.

  • Helicopter or air ambulance repatriation up to 5000 m.

MET will buy two essential permits in advance at the Tourism Board Office in Kathmandu for our Tilicho Lake helicopter tour, which are:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Lake Tilicho is located within the Annapurna Conservation Area, so we need this permit to spend 20 minutes at the lake, where our permit will be checked. The permit costs NPR 3000/person for foreign visitors, NPR 1000/person for SAARC nationals, and NPR 100/person for Nepalese citizens.
