Trip Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a rewarding journey into the heart of the Annapurna region, taking you through beautiful mountain landscapes, traditional villages, and peaceful forests before reaching the famous Annapurna Base Camp. The walk is shorter than the more classic route, but it offers an enjoyable experience with great mountain views and comfortable teahouse accommodation. It is perfect for those with limited time who still want to enjoy one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek starts in Pokhara and includes a drive to Jhinu Danda; thereafter, you can follow well-established mountain paths through Chhomrong, Sinuwa, Bamboo, Himalaya, and Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Each day you can experience new scenes, ranging from green forests and running water to the rocky alpine landscape. Friendly local communities, suspension bridges, waterfalls, and quiet valleys are all along the way, making the journey enjoyable and memorable.

Gradually, the trek will take us to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m / 13,550 ft), the maximum height of the trek. The mountains surrounding the base camp are some of the highest ones in Nepal, such as Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre and many other snow-covered peaks. The broad mountain valley provides a stunning backdrop and gives trekking enthusiasts a chance to take in Himalayan vistas from every angle.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is recommended for those with moderate fitness and who can walk for a few hours a day. These paths include stone steps, forest tracks, and easy climbs; therefore, the walk is not very difficult and is appropriate for most trekkers. Remember to stay hydrated, move at a moderate pace, and follow your guide to enjoy the trek.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary is well designed to maximize your time and enjoyment in the Annapurna region. Every evening you stay in a simple and hospitable teahouse where you can enjoy a freshly-cooked meal and sleep before the next day of the walk.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is ideal for first-time visitors to Nepal or anyone seeking another Himalayan adventure, offering an excellent combination of nature, culture, and trekking. My Everest Trip provides knowledgeable guides, permits, transportation, and detailed trekking support to ensure a comfortable, secure, and well-organized trip.

Why This Trip Is Special

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is unique because it lets you visit the Annapurna Sanctuary, reach its core in only a few days, and experience all the best aspects of Annapurna. It is a rewarding trek that offers some of the finest mountain trekking in the Himalayas, traditional Gurung villages, peaceful forests, waterfalls, and much more.

The scenery turns from green land and bamboo forests to an open alpine area with snow-covered peaks as you climb up. The highlight of the walk is reaching Annapurna Base Camp (4130m / 13550ft) and enjoying great views of Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and other Himalayan mountains from a natural mountain amphitheater.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is also notable for its easy teahouse lodging, hospitable locals, and well-trodden trail. This is a great option for those who may not have much time to trek but still want to enjoy the beauty, culture, and mountain scenery of the Annapurna region, one of the country’s most popular trekking areas.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek – 5 Days Itinerary

After breakfast, we set off for Jhinu, driving through a beautiful landscape. The route passes through narrow mountain roads, small villages, terraced fields, rivers and forests. Driving time is approximately 3-4 hours. The walk from Jhinu begins with crossing the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola River, then a walk uphill through stone stairs and traditional Gurung villages.

This trail is predominantly uphill and does call for a steady pace. Along the way, we have green hills and mountains as backdrops and visit local farms and homes. Chhomrong is the biggest village on the Annapurna Base Camp trek route, with a gorgeous view of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. With the group going at a good pace and the time available, we could proceed on to Sinuwa for an additional 1.5 to 2 hours, which will shorten the trek the next day. Overnight is at the teahouse in Chhomrong (2,170 m / 7,119 ft) or Sinuwa (2,340 m / 7,677 ft) depending on the day’s events.

Our day walk today takes us further into the Annapurna Conservation Area. We ascend to Upper Chhomrong, then descend to Chhomrong Khola and then ascend to Sinuwa. The trail is now through thick bamboo, rhododendron and oak forest from Sinuwa. It’s one of the most pleasant parts of the trek amidst the peaceful environs and the fresh mountain breeze.

Then we cross the Bamboo and Dovan before heading along the edge of the Modi Khola. The path slowly climbs and drops several times, passing through narrow valleys and wooded hills. High above, the terrain becomes more rugged and the valley opens up to the high mountains. In a small settlement surrounded by cliffs and forest, we arrive at Himalaya (2,920 m / 9,580 ft) in the late afternoon where we spend one night in a teahouse.

Following breakfast, we make further ascent in a narrow valley to Deurali (3230 m / 10597 ft). The vegetation gradually becomes sparse as we move above the tree line. On the way, we pass places where avalanches can form in winter and early spring where we must walk carefully, but we can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

From Deurali we proceed to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700 m / 12139 ft) for lunch or overnight camp if necessary. We proceed to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m/13550ft) if it is possible with the weather and time. The topography then expands into the Annapurna Sanctuary with majestic mountains such as Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre. This is a memorable experience when watching the changing of the mountain scenery from base camp. The accommodation is at Machhapuchhre Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp as per the itinerary and weather conditions.

After breakfast, we will start to make our way back through the Annapurna Sanctuary. There are several different views of the mountains and surrounding valleys along the descent. We ascend and descend downhill at a comfortable pace as it is easier overall, but the longer descent can be hard on the knees.

After passing Deurali Base Camp, Deurali, Himalaya and Dovan, we slowly cross back to the forest area of the trail. The afternoon walk is nice with the cooler temps and shade along the path. We reach the tranquil village of Bamboo (2,310 m / 7,579 ft) by late afternoon where we stay overnight in a teahouse, nestled amongst bamboo forest.

Our last day on the trek starts with a slow ascent to Sinuwa then a descent to Chhomrong Khola. From there we do the last ascent to Chhomrong and come downhill to Jhinu Danda 1780m (5840ft). If there is time, you can also visit the nearby natural hot springs located next to the Modi Khola (River), which are a 15-20 minute walk from the village and can be a relaxing break after several days of trekking.

We take the jeep back to Pokhara after lunch. The path takes you along the river valleys and small villages before you make it to the city. After arriving in Pokhara, you can unwind at your hotel or visit around the lakeside. This is the end of your Annapurna Base Camp experience.

My Everest Trip has helped me to achieve my EBC dream.. Trekking the EBC with My Everest Trip is one of my best hiking experiences. The initial contact with Puru, owner of the company, was smooth. He always gave me timely responses even though there are about 12 hours of time difference. Puru also made sure we were well taken care throughout the whole trip. He was at Kathmandu airport to pick us up, sent us to the hotel; He was on phone with different airlines to secure us a flight to Lukla when our flight had technical issues. After we were back in Kathmandu, he provided us with a private car to have a day tour of the city. During the trekking, our guide Shree, with his extensive experience on the trails, suggested us to hike counter-clockwise, which was the opposite of my original plan. I am so glad I took this advice and made our 12-day EBC-ChoLa Pass- Gokyo trekking a success. He also provided micro spikes and warm mittens for us. Without micro spikes we would not have crossed Cho-La Pass. I would highly recommend My Everest Trip to anyone who has the dream of hiking in the Himalayas.

EBC- Our most rewarding hiking trip Our 12-day hiking experience to EBC couldn’t be enjoyable without the help of our guide Shree and porter Mitra. Shree’s experience on the trail gave us good advice to hike counter clockwise, Namche- EBC- Cho-la Pass- Gokyo-Namche. Even though we had a few days of bad weather, We never had any problems, but enjoyed spectacular views of the Himalaya mountains, valleys, and the ecosystem. we would highly recommend Shree and My Everest Trip for anybody that want to experience Mount Everest camp hike.

EBC Trek, absolutely incredible!!! I can’t say enough incredible things about My Everest Trip, especially Puru (the owner) and Shree (my guide). From the very beginning, Puru was unbelievably responsive—patiently answering what must have felt like a billion questions and making me feel completely confident and prepared before even arriving in Nepal. Shree, my guide, was absolutely exceptional. I’m not the fastest trekker, but he never once made me feel rushed. He walked at my pace, constantly checked on how I was feeling, and took my health very seriously—making sure I stayed safe and avoided altitude sickness. His encouragement and positivity kept me going on the toughest days, and I truly don’t think I would have made it to Base Camp without him. What really sets this team apart is how far above and beyond they go. They helped customize my trip so I could spend a night at the iconic Everest View Hotel, which ended up being one of the highlights of the entire experience. They also handled all logistics seamlessly—securing the best tea houses and lounges along the route so I was always comfortable. Shree even helped me track down a tattoo studio in Namche, which turned out to be the highest tattoo studio in the world—such a unique and unforgettable addition to the journey! When weather delays impacted flights, they acted quickly and got me onto the second helicopter out—something that made all the difference in catching my return flight while others were stuck on the mountain. As a solo traveler, I always felt safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. Puru and Shree made sure I was comfortable every step of the way, turning what could have been a daunting experience into something unforgettable. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and as someone who isn’t exactly in peak physical shape, I’m incredibly proud to have made it to Everest Base Camp—with huge thanks to their guidance, care, and encouragement. If you’re considering trekking in Nepal, I wholeheartedly recommend My Everest Trip. You won’t find a more dedicated, thoughtful, and professional team.

Amazing Trip to EBC ! Our trip to EBC was amazing and an adventurous trip ! We were 4 hrs away from EBC and had to turn around due to a blizzard ( Snow storm ) and they had closed EBC due to amount of snow and risk. Since we had Shree with us, who was an absolute gentlemen, caring, and experienced, he guided us to a safe place. We walked down for 10 hrs in 3 feet of snow so that we can get rescued. I have to say that, without shree it wouldn't have been a great experience. I would highly recommend to hire Shree as your guide.

Unforgettable Adventure My friend and I had the best time trekking to Everest Base Camp with our amazing local guide, Shree! We're from Alaska and fairly used to hiking, but found the expertise and assistance from My Everest Trip to be invaluable (we got a sleeping bag, trekking poles, a porter, and all of the details taken care of!) The real treat though was getting a glimpse of the Himalayan life from a local tour guide. From getting patient answers to many questions, introduced to local delicacies, to evening musical jam sessions in teahouses, this trip was an unforgettable adventure.

I recently completed a 14-day trek in the Himalayas , around Ama Dablam and Gokyo lake, and I really enjoyed it. Our guide Shree was professional, calm, positive and knew the route very well. He checked our health on the altitude, kept us organized, and made sure everything went smoothly. We had to change the route due to the weather and Shree was very flexible, suggested options to us which I appreciated very much . If you’re planning a trek, I definitely recommend him.

Thankyou Shree!🙏 Just wrapped up a 14-day trek in the Himalayas and it was absolutely unreal – thanks to our amazing guide Shree. He knew the mountains like the back of his hand, kept us safe, and made the whole trip feel easy (even when it wasn’t!). Super organised, always had a smile, and genuinely cared about the group and locals. He went above and beyond every day – from helping us with altitude to sharing laughs over a cuppa at night. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide. If you’re thinking of doing a trek in the Himalayas – do it, and make sure you go with this legend.

If you had to pick one company to plan your EBC trek or really anything I would 100% pick this company, simply because of the owner. There was moments during my trip where I had concerns and the owner was always SO QUICK to reply and handle the problem in such a professional and simple manner. Knows how to communicate and reassure his clients like a natural born leader(he was also a guide for EBC before so he is extremely educated on trekking). Thank you again for this amazing experience🙏🙏.

We did the Annapurna circuit hike through this company, which took us 12 days. Everything was very well organised, and MP, our guide, was very helpful and ensured we were always able to acclimatise without any issues. Mahesh, our porter, was also great. The company also offered to transport our bags from Kathmandu to Pokhara, as we didn’t plan on heading back to Kathmandu for a couple of weeks.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek – 5 Days Additional Information

Weather and Best Season for Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Annapurna Base Camp Trek can be done during various seasons, but the most popular are the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). Typical months for stable weather, not many clouds in the mountains and temperatures that walk-and-talk at. Forests are filled with rhododendrons in the spring season and the autumn season is marked by crisp air and great visibility after the monsoon.

For the more experienced trekkers, winter can also be a possibility, but if you are trekking at high altitude, the weather can get quite cold. The trail could be snowed off near Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m / 13,550 ft) in heavy snowfall.

In the summer monsoon season, trails may become muddy and landslides are possible due to frequent rains. It is always advisable to consult the current weather before traveling.

Route and Elevation

The Annapurna Base Camp trek takes 5 days, starting from Pokhara with a drive to Jhinu and then trekking to Chhomrong, Sinuwa, Bamboo, Himalaya and Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Along the way, one will find forests, rivers, stone staircases and traditional mountain villages leading to Annapurna Base Camp.

The highest point of the trip is Annapurna Base Camp at 4130 m (13550 ft). Most people sleep at lower altitudes while trekking to acclimatise themselves. The trail is rather winding, but there are no difficult ascents or descents and the trail is well marked with comfortable teahouse rest stops.

Food and Accommodation

On the Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary, you can find the meals at your local teahouse along the journey. Usually in the morning you can have porridge, eggs, bread, pancakes or Tibetan bread with tea or coffee as breakfast. In the teahouses, Dal Bhat, noodles and fried rice, pasta, soups and potatoes are common for lunch and dinner along with seasonal dishes.

Accommodation is easy and comfortable. The majority of teahouses offer twin-sharing rooms with beds, blankets and shared bathrooms. Many locations offer charging points, Wi-Fi and hot showers available for an extra charge. The higher they get, the simpler the facilities are since they need to be carried into the mountains.

Altitude Sickness on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Some may get basic altitude sickness on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek because of the high elevation. The symptoms are headache, loss of appetite, dizziness, fatigue or insomnia.

Taking a slow walk, drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and eating regularly all minimize the risk. If symptoms deteriorate, moving to a lower elevation is the safest. Your guide will keep an eye on you during the trip and will advise you on what to do if necessary.

Visa and Permits

Nepal tourist visa is granted to most of the tourists on arrival from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or can be applied for at the Nepalese Embassy abroad. Your passport must have at least 6 months’ validity from your date of arrival.

The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) is required for the 5-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek. My Everest Trip will arrange for the necessary permits before the trek to make it easy for you. It will be helpful if you carry your passport copy and passport-size photos.

Health & Safety

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary is safe and enjoyable if well prepared. Exercising or walking regularly before the journey will make for a healthier you and make daily trekking more comfortable.

Bring your own first aid kit, use purified water and dress for changing weather in the mountains. They have established a route and know the route well so that there is a quick response to any changes in weather or health concerns. It is important at all times to follow the instructions of your guide.

Transportation for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The initial part of the Annapurna Base Camp trek begins with a road journey from Pokhara to Jhinu Danda. The drive is on mountain roads through villages and farmland to the trailhead.

Once you have finished the trek, you will be taken back to Pokhara in a private vehicle from Jhinu. The duration of the trip is typically about 3 to 4 hours each way, depending on the state of the road. When it comes to getting you to your destination, My Everest Trip takes care of the logistical details as part of your package, so all you have to do is make sure you’re having fun.

Travel Insurance

It is highly recommended to take travel insurance on the 5 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek. High altitude trekking up to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m / 13,550 ft), emergency medical treatment and helicopter rescue should be covered by your policy.

The weather in the mountains is changeable and sometimes unforeseen events can happen. Having an appropriate insurance policy will afford financial security and can enable emergency assistance to be booked if need be. Keep your insurance documents with you on the trek.

Your Extra Expenses on  the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Many of the services are part of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek package, but you should also plan for some personal expenses on this trek.

Additional expenses may include beverages, snacks, desserts, hot showers, internet access, charging of electronic devices, laundry, mementoes and tips for guides and porters. A little Nepalese money is preferable as there are limited facilities for card payments in mountain villages.

Language & Communication

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is through villages where Nepali is the primary language. Most visitors can communicate with many of the local guides, lodge owners and trekking staff who speak at least basic to good English.

There is mobile telephone reception in many areas of the route and coverage is weaker at higher altitudes. Several teahouses offer Wi-Fi coverage, but this can be slow in some weather conditions and in some places.

Don’ts on This Trip

In the 5 Days Annapurna Base Camp Trek, show respect to the local culture, fellow trekkers and the environment. In villages, wear modest clothes and seek permission before taking photographs of the people.

Avoid littering on the path, harassment of wildlife, destruction of plants or unnecessary noise. Don’t drink untreated water and never underestimate the effects of altitude sickness. The local customs and instructions of your guide make everyone feel safe and enjoy the experience.

Trip Extension

After arriving back in Pokhara, many travelers extend their Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary for some additional sightseeing.

Some favorite destinations are Lumbini, Chitwan National Park, Kathmandu Valley and short treks like Poon Hill. If you have some extra time left, My Everest Trip can arrange an appropriate extension according to your interests and travel plans.

Photography and Drone Rules for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Mountains, forests, rivers and traditional villages are good subjects for photos during the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Bring extra batteries as batteries lose life more rapidly at higher altitudes.

Drone flying is permitted in Nepal and typically should be done with government approval from the relevant authorities. It is prohibited to fly a drone in a protected area without permission and may incur penalties. Be sure to review current regulations before flying a drone.

Tips for First Time Visitors

For the first-time trekker to Annapurna Base Camp, get accustomed to walking before you come to Nepal. Your trip will be more comfortable if you pack comfortable trekking boots, layered clothing, a reusable water bottle, a warm sleeping bag and sunscreen.

Go at a slower speed, drink plenty of water and have fun on the way to your destination. Follow your guide, honor local customs and clean the mountain. If you prepare it carefully and have a positive attitude, you will have a wonderful trekking experience without any danger.
