A Complete Everest Trekking Guide

A Complete Everest Trekking Guide

Everest Trekking Guide

A Complete Everest Trekking Guide is many treks globally, but none are more well-known than the one to EBC. Trekking in the Everest region is the most exciting and unique adventure available. Reaching Everest’s base camp is more than just a hike; the mountain itself is more than just a symbol. A trip to Everest Base Camp, or the EBC Trek, is a top-tier hiking adventure. Mt. Everest, at 29,029 feet or 8,848.68 meters, is the central focus of this expedition. The path, which some have called “the steps to heaven,” is littered with beautiful forests, Sherpa villages, glacial moraines, and hills that beg to be photographed.

Although hiking to Lukla from Kathmandu is feasible, most trekkers take a short flight to save time and energy before starting the journey to this base camp. Since no roads connect Kathmandu and Lukla, vast and heavy items must be flown between the two cities. While on your journey to Everest Base Camp, at an altitude of 5,364 meters, you can witness more than five mountains above 7,000 meters in height. Most of the trail passes through Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to musk deer, snow leopards, Himalayan tigers, black bears, and various pheasants in vibrant colors.

Where is Everest Base Camp Located?

At an elevation of 5,364 meters, Everest Base Camp is situated in the Khumbu area of Nepal, some 150 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu. Everest base camp trek guide rest and acclimate before making the ascent of Mount Everest. The North Base Camp is located in Tibet, while the South Base Camp is situated in Nepal; both are used as staging areas for ascents of Everest. Most people refer to the Nepalese camp as the Everest Base Camp.

Everest Trekking is a bucket list item for adventurers worldwide. Everest Base Camp is at the base of Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world (8,848.86 m). The Everest Base Camp Trek takes hikers through Sherpa settlements and over glaciers to the foot of Mount Everest. The popularity of the trek to Everest’s base camp may be attributed to the universal desire to see the world’s highest mountain.

I had so many questions and worries about the trip and he was able to guide me and answer all my questions The process on board was smooth and easy. When I arrived in Nepal, I found that everything was ready from the person who picked me up from the airport to the hotel, some equipment for the trip, a complete introductory meeting about what to expect from the trip, All land transport, and even before I left Nepal for a walk.  I’m really glad I made him my guide. a very unique person. he is more than a guide .. he is also a good friend,  he made sure I enjoyed it. he still shares his expertise in the mountains, Sherpas, and Nepalese culture. . he always supported me, even on days that I had a hard time due to altitude sickness. he encouraged me and inspired me not to give up our life journey, he always emphasized health and safety first. Despite all the challenges of the trek to Everest Base Camp Trek but I’m so glad I did it and I did it with a very good group of people on My Everest Trip. I highly recommend  My Everest Trip if anyone looking for a trek in Nepal.

I have an astonishing encounter! I did the EBC trek with My Everest Trip, a lovely and kind aide. All the groups from My Everest trip were exceptionally mindful, adaptable, and strong during the Trekking as well as in the past and during my outdoor trip. It is tough to go during a pandemic, yet the group was exceptionally proficient and supportive. Many thanks, My Everest Trip ( Puru ). See you soon

What an individual-changing trip it ended up being. Our Guide, Hari, was five-star, proficient, amicable, and had extraordinary information, and he cared for us. I wouldn’t pick one more outing without him; he was only that great. From the first contact with this organization, I realized they were individuals to book with. Every one of my inquiries was responded to rapidly with the specific data I was looking for. As I had investigated, the journey itself was challenging but very satisfying. Again, our aide Kewal took all the vital well-being safeguards, permitting us to adapt accurately and telling us everything we needed to know. Quite often, he would get some information about our actual well-being; without this aid, we would perhaps not have finished the journey, as numerous others we saw were cleared due to wrong acclimatization and the speed at which to go to elevation correctly—an enormous thank you to all the group at My Everest Trip. I would enthusiastically suggest them and constantly involve them in further journeys in Nepal.          Willis

With a happy smile. After Tengboche, the view was stunning most of the time. We did both base camp and Kalapatthar during our trek. Trekking up to the Kalapatthar was hard but it was a fantastic viewpoint we see Everest is closed to us and it is so worth it. Exploring the base camp is an amazing adventure of a lifetime. We would like to give many thanks to My Everest Trip and our crew Ratna and Birman for their great effort. We will highly be recommended this trip to our friend and this company who arrange everything without any problems.

Everything from the picking up at the airport to the goodbye dinner has been very well organized, making this journey the experience of a lifetime. I had been to Nepal a few years before, and I did a tour of this beautiful country at that time. My Everest Trip I enjoyed it so when I started checking the several agencies that run Everest Base Camp Trek, I decided to choose them; during the trek, my guide  Hari answered hundred of times patiently my questions about every single peak we would see. he is an amiable person as well as our porter. I also changed a bit the scheduled plan by adding, while we were on our way up, an additional day for trekking to the Ama Dablam Base Camp, which is so unique to Everest base camp, which, by the way, I strongly recommend), accommodation and many other things) so that it has been possible for me to have that extra experience also. This journey has been one of the best holidays of my life; I have so many beautiful memories! I highly recommend this agency if anyone is looking for trekking or tours in Nepal.

Tusinn using takk

He then personally picked us up from the airport and settled us into a lovely hotel! The next day we met our guide Krishna who took us to fly into Lukla. This was no problem at all. My Everest Trip had all these things before we arrived, so it was much easier for us. Krishna was extremely knowledgeable throughout the entire trek. He knew so much about history, geology, geography, and everything. He was also very switched on in assessing my friends when we started to get slight altitude sickness and changed the itinerary slightly to allow for extra acclimatization. Krishna has done the hike over 50 times. Hence, he knew the trek back to the front and the owners of the tea houses. He always ensured our food was cooked perfectly and our tea boiled sufficiently. When my friends and I suffered altitude sicknesses he also carried our bag to alleviate the weight. We felt completely comfortable. so I have kept in regular contact throughout our time in Nepal ensuring that they are still of assistance if we need more recommendations or assistance. You will have a fantastic time in Nepal with My Everest Trip and truly feel well looked after! Do yourself a favour and book with My Everest Trip !! I will be recommending it to all my friends and family.

Doing this trek in the spring of 2019 was a dream come through. Dreaming about this for years, building high expectations and Puru did not let me down. First of all the trek itself is nice, but the kind and well-prepared staff made this an even bigger experience. Always helpful and making sure I was safe and comfortable. Considering everything is included, except for a few personal things, this is also a very reasonable price. Nepal has won my heart and I definitely want to come back for another visit someday and do another adventure with the people from My Everest Trip.

It’s a nice safety precaution they know the trails so well, but they have the greatest respect for the clients who experience everything for the first time. I don’t think Ratna ever gets tired of telling his stories and it is obvious he holds great love for his country and the mountains.

You can always be sure Puru does everything in his power to give you the best trek possible. I think actually the only thing he can’t provide for is nice weather! Before my trek, he assisted me in buying some equipment and made sure I get a good bargain.

I would never go to another company,  My Everest Trip is my only trekking partner in Nepal.

Due to his many years of experience, he has excellent knowledge about his Mountains and his clients; he is patient and always polite, and he knows exactly when to step in with help and good advice and when to leave you in peace.

I understand why the EBC is a popular trekking destination, and arriving at your starting point by plane adds so much value to the experience. Walking with a good guide who shares his knowledge and takes his time to answer questions is a blessing.

I have only good things to say about how My Everest Trip planned this trek. Transport, accommodation, food, guiding … everything is spot on and trouble-free. The best service I could wish for, and I could not feel safer.

I give my best recommendation for Puru and My Everest Trip, and if I return to Nepal, I will choose this company again.

My best wishes for all good things in the years to come.

We planned to see all the sights in Kathmandu for three weeks without rushing through it. Puru planned everything and booked a hotel close to the office. This way, it was straightforward for us to go there when we wanted a guide for sightseeing or ask for advice if we wanted to go on our own. He also assisted us in buying some equipment. The day we flew to Lukla started a bit cloudy, but after 10 minutes, the sky cleared, and we could enjoy the incredible Himalayas…wow. I can’t describe that feeling … just woohoo. On day 2 of the trek, we reached Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest, and what a place! So vibrant. We were happy the next day was acclimatization day, so we had time to explore the surroundings. The following days Tengboche and Dingboche. Ratna always takes care of us, making sure we walk good pace and takes time to enjoy the views and take pictures. This fantastic landscape, the snow-covered peaks, the prayer flags, the suspension bridges (even my girlfriend developed a love for them), and the day arrived when we reached the Everest Base Camp. I was blown away. The Queen of my life standing there with the king of the mountains behind her. So I did something I had not prepared for. I picked a small rock from the ground, went down on my knee, and asked her to marry me. Luckily Ratna was quick to capture this special moment on camera. And (lucky me) she said yes! This trek was fantastic in all aspects. My Everest Trip did an excellent job. They know the importance of safety and do not rush through, leaving out acclimatization days to make a good profit or cut any corners short. All the staff is polite and kind and speak good English. When we returned to Kathmandu, Puru took us for dinner at a lovely restaurant to ”celebrate Happy Trek”, as he put it. He even suggested we do our honeymoon in Nepal … and guess what … that’s precisely what we plan to do!!!

Top 5 Best Treks in Nepal
Excellent Facilitation of a short Himalayan Trek. I’m a regular visitor to Nepal and have been so since the early eighties (of the past century). My visits to Nepal are predominantly centred around work or conducting professional studies. I continue such visits into the present. In my early years in Nepal, I lived in the Western (Karnali-Beri) Region and was based in the Jumla district. Subsequently, I stayed in Kathmandu, where I travelled extensively. My work in and outside Nepal centers on agriculture, forestry, and rural development, particularly in nature conservation, non-timber forest products, and medicinal plants. The Himalayan region is well known for the latter. My most recent visit to Nepal was in November 2017. This visit combined professional activities, meeting Nepali friends, and a short Himalayan trek. While in Kathmandu, I looked for someone or an agency to facilitate the required trekking permits, road transport, and flight arrangements. I relied on these services from Mr Puru Thapaliya for my Everest Trip after meeting him in his Thamel – Chhetrapati office. Initially, Puru assisted me with the international shipment of goods. The small size of the company office is reflected in the extent of services it provides and the high level of efficiency with which it does so. Many positive company characteristics are thanks to Puru Thapaliya himself. He started as a porter in his native rural area, then quickly became a certified guide, and following this, he started his own business. This means he knows the trekking industry in Nepal from the inside out. I learned to know Puru as a dedicated travel agent/service provider who regularly keeps track of you even when you undertake a short, not-too-complicated trek (Jiri – Lukla). There is no explanation for the fact that the preparatory services to arrange this trip were carried out smoothly and at the most reasonable cost. I usually opt for individual or simple guided trips in case remote areas are concerned. In 2017, my available time for logistical preparation and trekking did not allow for more complex trips in Nepal, such as Dolpo, Upper Mustang, or Arun Valley. I favour such trips because of their lower tourism density and high offering of authentic cultural aspects, rich natural history, and scenery. During my personal communication with Puru, he convinced me that he not only possesses the experience and flexibility to support custom-organized trips. He also has the required local contacts to help with such travel. I strongly recommend the services of “My Everest Trip” and Puru. With a small group of friends, I will surely avail myself of these services later in 2018.

Being a great fan of Nepal, I travelled with Puru on the Mount Everest Base camp trek in 2009. It was thoroughly well organized, and Puru was exceptional in his service and always made sure that we were safe, comfortable, and well-motivated (which is sometimes needed!). What I very much appreciated was his style of guidance. I was travelling with my partner, and he respected that we needed our space but was always close by should we need anything. I can highly recommend Puru to anybody going on a trek in Nepal. Book your flights to Kathmandu, and he will arrange…

How to get to the Khumbu region or Everest Base Camp?

You can always choose between driving and flying. The Everest Base Camp expedition starts in Kathmandu after landing at Tribhuwan International Airport. You may create your journey in Lukla by directly flying from Kathmandu.

Another alternative is to take a bus from Kathmandu to Jiri and start your journey there. This traditional Jiri route is often used by those who want to drive to Lukla rather than fly or want to walk Edmund Hillary’s path. The conventional way takes you from Jiri to Lukla and Everest Base Camp.

Everest Base Camp Trekking Map

You can see on this map the precise path you’ll take to reach Everest Base Camp. There are several other routes in Solukhumbu besides the standard Lukla to Everest Base Camp route. Our map shows all of these potential routes in the Everest region. This chart should be followed to enjoy your trek in Nepal.

Altitude Map of EBC Trek

The traditional starting point for the Everest Base Camp Trek is Lukla (2,800 m). You can reach the trailhead from Kathmandu/Lukla in a short flight. The high altitude of Lukla necessitates a night’s stay at a lower height in Phakding (2,610 m).

Namche Bazar (3,438 m), Tengboche (3,860 m), Dingboche (4,410 m), and Lobuche (4,940 m) are just some of the cities you’ll go through on your way to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m). The trail continues up to Kala Patthar, a popular lookout high above EBC at an altitude of 5,545 meters. In addition, this is the highest point of the hike.

How challenging is the Everest Base Camp Trek?

The trek to the base camp is rated as moderate. The hike to the base camp is rated as being of moderate difficulty. One must walk for six to seven hours every day over twelve days. Despite being a modest walk, the hiking pathways are difficult. While walking is tranquil, sustaining the growing height might be challenging. The trek demands minimum skills, although previous experience is usually helpful.

Best season for Trekking in the Khumbu Region

There are two peak times to make the journey to the Everest region. To avoid the monsoons, visit Everest Base Camp in March, April, or May, or after they have passed in the middle of September, October, or November. Therefore, spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit Everest or Khumbu region

Dud Koshi River

Pre-monsoon/ Spring season (Feb-May)

Trekking to Everest Base Camp and other routes in the Everest area is best during these months when the weather is consistent and dry. Snow is still present on the trail. The landscapes and mountain vistas are breathtaking, but hiking at more than 4000 meters may be challenging and uncomfortable due to the cold and altitude. Since April falls roughly in the middle of spring, it is a very active month.

Post-monsoon/Autumn season (Mid Sept.-Late Nov.)

These are the most apparent months of the year, with less haze and fewer clouds, thus making it the best season for trekking in the Everest region. The spectacular views of breathtaking mountains and landscapes are often available to us. The Everest Region is best explored throughout the autumn. Since October falls amid the autumn season, you may expect to find many customers at your local teahouse.

However, going to Everest Base Camp between December and February is feasible, although temperatures in the Himalayas will be pretty low. At night, temperatures drop to -25 C, and heavy snowfall is on the path. The accumulation of severe snowfall might force the closure of mountain passages. The beginning of spring and ending of autumn are great times to go on a hike and not encounter too many other people.

Weather and Biodiversity in the Everest Region

Unpredictable weather at Everest base camp region

It isn’t easy to foretell the weather at Everest Base Camp. Changing the weather’s trajectory means you must be ready for anything. It is often much colder at night than it is during the day. The winter evenings may be as hard as -20 degrees Celsius, while the summer days can reach up to 25 degrees Celsius. Even though the sky is bright in the morning, clouds may roll in by midday and block the view of the mountaintops covered in snow.

The temperatures tend to be milder in the spring. The daytime highs range from 17°C to 25°C, while the nightly lows may dip to -15°C. The seasons cause a range of temperature changes. No of the season, you should always be ready for unexpected weather changes.

Uniquely rich Biodiversity in the Everest region

The trek to Everest offers a chance to see many different plants and animals. The Sagarmatha National Park’s hiking route encircles an area of 1148 square kilometers in the Himalayan ecological zone. In 1979, Sagarmatha Park received a second designation as a World Natural Heritage site for its exceptional, rare, and picturesque qualities. Many species of unique animals, birds, and reptiles make their homes in the Everest Base Camp area. An impressive 118 bird species and 26 butterfly species have made this park their permanent home.

Animals call the Everest region home, including the red panda, the snow leopard, the clouded leopard, the Himalayan Tahrs, the musk deer, and the wild yak. , Himalayan black bears, Mountain wolves, wild boars, Leopard cats, and barking deer may also be observed in the region’s deep forest. The lower woodland area is home to various tree species, including birch, juniper, blue pines, firs, bamboo, and rhododendron. Everything growing over that line is either very short or very bushy. Only lichens and mosses can survive as one travels higher into the mountains. The permanent snow line in the Himalayas prevents plant growth at around 5,750 m (18,690 ft).

Everest Base Camp Trekking Cost

Reaching Everest’s base camp on foot is the next best thing to climbing the world’s highest mountain. Furthermore, the Everest base camp trek cost is far less than an actual ascent. There is no simple way to estimate the overall price since it depends heavily on the specifics of each traveler’s itinerary. Depending on your budget and the level of luxury you want, the price of a trekking adventure in Nepal’s mountains may vary from extremely cheap to very expensive.

You won’t find any hard and fast rules regarding the expense of an Everest Base Camp Trek. Depending on the itinerary, the services provided, and the price of airfare, the total Everest base camp trekking cost might be anywhere from $1200 to $2500. If you want to travel in style, you may upgrade to a more expensive plan that includes a helicopter ride back to base camp. Adding on a few nights in Everest Base Camp at the end of your expedition will increase the price to $4500.

Accommodation and Food in the Everest Region

Accommodation during Everest base camp trekking

After a day of hiking, a comfortable bed seems like heaven. All the Everest Base Camp expedition lodgings are basic and reasonably priced. Along the way, you may stay at any of several lodges or Teahouses that also serve as restaurants. A night at a teahouse is just a few dollars if you dine there. Walking from teahouse to teahouse is hassle-free since you won’t need to bring food or tents.

The rooms are set up for twin occupancy, and guests must share a bathroom. There is nothing fancy about the room or the bathrooms, but they are clean and friendly. Everything from electricity to telephone service to top-ups to Wi-Fi to laundry services is taken care of for you.

Foods During the EBC Trek

It’s not uncommon to find a similar selection of foods on the menus of various teahouses. The Everest area is home to multiple restaurants serving international and continental cuisine and regional specialties. The menu features regional specialties from Nepal and Sherpa and popular dishes from around the globe.  Dal, Bhat, tarkari, and achar, four staples of Nepalese cuisine, are served quickly and freshly for lunch and dinner. Alternatives include Chowmein, Momo, pizza, spaghetti, soup, noodles, burgers, fried chicken, boiled vegetables, etc.

Considering the low cost of lodging and the fact that porters and yaks have to bring all the food up the mountain, the cuisine served at the Tea houses on EBC is surprisingly delicious and affordable. Generally speaking, as you gain altitude on the Everest Base Camp path, you may expect to pay a somewhat higher amount for meals since porters have to carry it all. Breakfast options include tea, coffee, milk, omelet, Tibetan bread, Chapatti, toast, hot lemon, hot chocolate, chocolate roll, apple pie, pancakes, porridge with milk, and more.

Altitude Sickness and Preventive Measures

Throughout the Everest Base Camp Trek, you will ascend to a height of more than 5,100 meters. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), often known as altitude sickness, is a frequent side effect of traveling to high altitudes (AMS). When the body is not properly acclimatized to its size, acute mountain sickness (AMS) may develop in anybody, regardless of age, health, or fitness level.

Below, we’ll discuss the signs and how to avoid them.

Symptoms

  • Irregular or painful breathing
  • Headache
  • The accelerated beating of the heart
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Tiredness
  • Appetite loss
  • Trouble digesting
  • Diarrhoea and sickness
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness and a sense of instability

Preventive measures

  • Make sure you get enough sleep.
  • Take care to stay hydrated.
  • Descend to a lower altitude if any signs and symptoms appear.
  • Smoking, drinking, and the use of tranquilizers are strictly forbidden.
  • Feed your body with calories.
  • Take it easy on yourself
  • Rising gently and slowly is the best way to get there.

Guidelines for applying for a visa to enter Nepal

Foreign nationals of all nations, except Indians, needed a visa to enter Nepal. There is an immigration office at Tribhuvan International Airport where visitors can get permits upon arrival and renew their current passports. Visa applicants must provide a passport photo and a passport with at least six months of validity.

The Nepalese government has decided to waive the visa fee for citizens of China and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries. A 30-day visa is available at the Tribhuvan International Airport, although non-SAARC nationals must pay US$50 in cash.

Insurance requirement for Everest base camp trekking

Insurance is required for hiking in a region of extreme altitude. You should get enough insurance before you go out on your journey. The journey is not inherently risky, but it does present some dangers that should be weighed when determining which travel insurance to purchase. Minor ailments, such as a sprained ankle, may be a logistical nightmare and prove rather expensive. Thus, insurance is necessary for anybody attempting the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Several health issues, including altitude sickness and unfortunate accidents, may strike trekkers in the EBC region. You must ensure your insurance policy covers up to 6,000 meters in altitude. Choose an insurance policy that will cover the cost of a helicopter to transport you to safety if an accident or illness requires it.

Types of Permits and necessary documents

The government of Nepal has instituted permit fees as a reasonable precaution to maintain the integrity of the Everest and Himalayan ecosystems. The Khumbu area of Nepal attracts thousands of trekkers and mountaineers every year because of its spectacular scenery, which includes Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, the Goyko Lakes, and many more.

Permit payments are used to fund the maintenance of the trail and preserve the area for future hikers and people of Nepal. Compared to traveling to Nepal and the Everest Region, the cost of a permit is negligible when considering the worth of this region’s snow, trees, ice, pastures, and culture.

The following permission is required for the EBC hike:

Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) card

You may apply for a TIMS card at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu. The price is USD 20 per person.

Permit for Sagarmatha National Park

Sagarmatha National Park is a prerequisite for the Everest Base Camp region. So, you can’t get to the Everest area if you don’t have permission.

The permission may be obtained at either the Monjo Gate or in Kathmandu. There will be a price difference of around $25 (foreigners), $12 (SAARC nationals), and $1 (Nepalese).

Pasang Lambhu Rural Municipality permit

You will require permission from the Khumbu rural municipality to enter the Khumbu area. The permits may be purchased at either Lukla or Monjo. The first four weeks of a tourist visa cost $16 per foreigner. The estimated expenditure for the next twelve weeks is $20.

Necessary document required for permit

From the above information, it is clear that you can’t enter the Everest region without a permit. So, bring the following documents needed for getting the visa.

  • Proof of travel insurance
  • Passport size photo (2)
  • Photocopy of passport

MyEverestTrip will help you in getting all the necessary permits. You have to bring the documents as mentioned earlier. Our team will manage the rest.

Does solo travel feasible for EBC region?

Yes. It is safe and feasible for solo travelers to go to Everest Base Camp. Trekking in Nepal is not only safe but also very rewarding. There have, unfortunately, been a few incidences in the past, and we can’t ignore that. Yet this fraction is negligible when weighed against the total number of tourists visiting the nation. The benefits of a solo trek to Everest Base Camp include more freedom of schedule and itinerary, less stress, and lower expenses. Still, your safety is paramount, so devote considerable time and energy to prepare.

Because of the abundance of amenities and the clarity of the route markings and maintenance, it is gaining popularity among solo trekkers. Additionally, facilitating interactions with local service providers for solo travelers is the fact that locals can understand and converse with you. However, Altitude sickness is the primary risk factor on the Everest Base Camp Trek. A well-acclimatized group is aware of the signs of altitude sickness may safely complete EBC Trek. Since this is a challenging hike, you should get assistance from a trekking agency like MyEverestTrip. It will boost your assurance, not in terms of security but thrill.

Hiring guides and porters and tipping them

Hiring guides and porters

A trekking guide is a licensed expert who has developed robust guiding and communication abilities to supervise treks in the Himalayas. They can assist you in organizing everything since they have solid contacts with ticket companies, lodging options, and porters. They will help you obtain permission, act as your point of contact at the hotels, and educate you on these mountainous regions’ customs, history, and perspectives. A qualified guide will also show you how to evaluate your health and prevent altitude sickness.

Hired to carry supplies along the path, porters play a crucial role in the trekking sector. Hiring a porter is a great way to support the local economy and add a new source of income. A porter may transport up to 30 kg of gear from one trailhead to the next. When employing a porter, be explicit about who is accountable if he negotiates prices, leaves for another customer, or becomes sick. Therefore, we suggest you do not employ porters on your own. MyEverestTrip has an expert team of guides and porters you can blindly rely on.

How much to tip guides and porters?

While much of Asia doesn’t have a tipping culture, many Nepalese guides and porters rely on tips from trekkers. Tipping is optional. You should only tip when the service is excellent. Tipping guides and porters in Nepal may be challenging. You may use dollars or another currency to estimate how much to contribute, but a tip in Nepali rupees.

Solo trekkers should tip guides $5 per day and porter $2 to $4 per day if the experience is pleasant. Weight carried and trekked difficulty might also affect the total. When on a group excursion, double the rates for guides and porters.

Everest hiking has no age restriction as long as you’re healthy and active. Seven-year-olds and 70-year-olds have completed the journey. However, the exceptionally high elevations may harm children’s health, notably if they have never hiked in high-altitude places. Younger children may be unable to alert their parents if they have altitude sickness, making climbing more difficult. Therefore, we suggest not bringing children below seven years old to trek in the Everest region.

Hiring a porter to carry their loads is crucial, even with children 12-14. Preparing for a trek in Nepal requires focusing on fitness above all else. Maintaining a moderate level of fitness is suggested. If you are not already exercising or are very active, you should start doing well before your journey. As an added tip, avoid the frigid winter and rainy monsoon months and visit Nepal in the summer or fall for the best weather.

Money exchange service and Availability of ATM

In the Nepali market, you will need Rupees. Because of this, you were exchanging your dollars for Nepali rupees is essential. It is possible to convert most major foreign currencies into Nepalese rupees at local banks and reputed money exchangers in Kathmandu and around Thamel. Alternatively, you may withdraw Rupees from any ATMs throughout Thamel and the Kathmandu Valley.

The Namche Bazar also has an ATM for your convenience. Even with the 500 Rupees service fee, you may only withdraw up to 35,000 from an ATM when using a foreign card. However, we recommend coming to Kathmandu with cash to perform a currency exchange.

How to trek safely in the Everest region?

Nepal is just as safe for trekkers compared to other mountainous countries. Overall, Khumbu is a highly secure area where violent crime is rare. Many trekkers are passing through the region, so it’s wise to keep your belongings close at hand. Altitude sickness is a real issue in Khumbu, affecting fit and young residents. If you begin to feel lightheaded, have heart palpitations, or have an intense headache, you should descend to a lower altitude quickly. As frightening as it may seem, altitude sickness is deadly.

Even though the water seems perfectly safe to drink, you shouldn’t risk it. Try iodine pills or buy bottled or boiling water instead. With the recent installation of phone lines in most of the villages in the Khumbu region, hikers may now take advantage of reliable cell service across the area. Nepal Telecom and Ncell, the two major providers, provide excellent trailside coverage and are compatible with almost all international roaming services. Having a guide accompany you on your hike is highly recommended. The native guides will ensure a safe and enjoyable walk by providing in-depth regional knowledge.
